Anyone know where I can purchase the correct reproduction 340 engine oil dipstick tube? I know there are a few manufacturers that produce replacements, but some are generic and too tall and not the correct length as the originals.

would it be possible to turn out an acceptable version by trimming one to length with a tubing cutter?.

at least on big blocks I've had good luck with Mancini, but I had to sand down the end where it goes into the block

Even with a Big Block the handle design is based on the earlier curved ones.
I had to buy NOS for my 72 and need another NOS for my 71.

Puzzled by the 1" shorter? What does that mean?

"2049" - Oil Indicator & Tube Assembly - $45 Each

Our high quality reproduction oil indicator and tube for 1970-74 small block applications. The clear zinc plated tube is formed from the correct wall thickness steel tubing with correct swedged flare & tapered end for easier installation. Oil indicator handle is accurately formed and finished like original, but is 1" shorter in length than originals. The indicator includes anti-rattle bends and embossed ADD-FULL marks. Handle and tube are to be painted with the engine after installation."
