It all depends on what you want out of the car.

The 300 will be more luxurious than the Charger.

MPG of a 5.7l vs an SRT is going to depend on what year(s) you're considering, and that depends on your budget.

I would skip the early 5.7 due to the valve seat dropping issue. The SRT8 is more fun but more $$. The 5.7 will still may cause you to crack a smile.

This is very inaccurate. Both cars can and could be ordered with varying trim model setups( interior/exterior/interior upgrades), do yourself a favor and test drive as many different trim optioned of both as you can. The 5.7 is no slouch in either, but both 6 liter engines are great. If you don't want to do a bunch of work to go fast, get an SRT. Fuel economy will vary based upon driving conditions. The charger I had, 5.7/2012, avg fuel economy was 29mpg, many long trips at 32mpg. The SRT will sip more.

I disagree. Given the same model year a 300C will be more luxurious than a Charger R/T and a 300 SRT will be more luxurious that a Charger SRT. The OP is asking 5.7l VS SRT not V6 300 VS Charger R/T.

For comparison my friends 2006 300C was much more luxurious than my 2007 Magnum SRT8. But my Magnum is faster.

Duffman, I think we can both agree that whatever he chooses he is going to have good performance and be comfortable. I bought a '12 charger rt MAX, felt like sitting on a sofa and had every single option except the Beats byDre stereo upgrade. Heated/cooled seats, steering wheel, mirrors, heated/cooled cup holders, 8.4 screen, 20" chrome wheels, back up cam, ect. The only real difference I saw when shopping around ( looked at both models throughout the year range) the 300 had simulated wood trim if ordered so. I preferred the looks of the 2011 up model years on both. Opinions will vary. Good luck in finding one you like. If you live in an area that gets a decent amount of snow, think about awd models or buying snow tires.

But that wasn't the OP's question. "which one make a better all around better car a 300 or a charger?"

My original reply still stands "It all depends on what you want out of the car."

Personally I'd go with a charger just because if you ever need parts, they are more common although they do share a lot of the same parts. I went 5.7 when I bought a magnum, but it was because I wanted awd, otherwise I would have went with a 6.1

68 Road Runner, 69 Belvedere, 71 Challenger Vert
340 barracuda, 01 Ram CTD, 95 Ram, 04 Ram, 85 Daytona turbo Z
66 GTO, 06 Magnum RT AWD. 07 Ram CTD, 07 Ram

I have driven (and owned a couple) Police 5.7 Chargers, and owned one SRT8.

I would definitely pick stay with '09 and up 5.7 because of the change to Eagle Heads and VVT with the jump in HP. Although the earlier ones were still very fast Police cars here, and we didn't experience a bunch of engine trouble, they had that reputation.

I don't know what it is, but I swear, there is something about the '09 and '10 5.7's in the Chargers (at least the Police Chargers). They just flat out plant you back in your seat! And they sound better than the later ones too. I can't explain why, but I have driven enough and heard enough to say there is something with the '09 and '10. And others have mentioned the same thing to me. If you can grab one I'd highly recommend. My '06 SRT8 was a great car to me, hauled butt and was trouble free from 28,000 miles. I was not a lead foot except for the occasional necessary stomping it onto the freeway. I averaged 18mpg. That's what I'm averaging in my 5.7 with MDS.

I don't know anything about the 300's.

Facts are stubborn things.

I have only sat or rode in a few of these cars. (Never owned one) The back seat of a Charger does NOT have much head room for tall folks. I'm not sure the year car I rode in, but my head hit the ceiling. I sat in a 300 and it seemed to have more head room in the back seat. The front seat had sufficient head room in both cars.
