I am about to convert the factory 1969 engine harness to the 5.7 Alternator. The instructions I have say to use a 70 and above style regulator and connect terminal #1 to the blue ignition wire and the #2 terminal to the green field wire. This means I have to get a harness converted to an electronic regulator to start with. I have an electronic replacement factory looking 69 "can" style regulator now. Is electronic, electronic or do I need the later style regulator no matter what? I prefer to have the can style but the Nippondenso Alternator has to stay.

You don't have to have any wiring at all.
Just have any good alternator shop convert the 5.7 alternator into a one wire.
I've had mine that way for years and has never missed an beat!

We had the alternator converted to a rear post already to give clearance for the Air Grabber. We are just concentrating on the regulator appearance on the firewall right now. Thanks though.

Looking at the diagrams it looks like the new style regulator switches the field to ground and the old style switches power to the field.

What I meant was to have the alternator shop put an internal voltage regulator inside the 5.7 alternator.

I want a regulator on the firewall.

The information I need is whether the electronic version of the 69 "Can" style is the same as a 70 Electronic version.

I don't want to change anything else.
