I will have to replace the heater core in my 2001 Dakota.
Has anybody replaced one?
How big of a project is it, are there any shortcuts?

Try an online search for the swap. Usually you can find videos showing how to do it.

iagree

Unfortunately, the whole dash has to come out to remove the case. I would replace the blower motor, resistor, and a/c evaporator while in there. The blower motor is acting up in my Durango and I plan to do it all while I have the case out. up
