Here is a picture of my 69 440 block. As you can see the bottom of the cylinders have a chamfer. Two questions:

was this done by the factory (haven't seen it before)

why is the chamfer on one bank much larger than on the other side?

Looks like factory, and there have been some sloppily cast blocks. The end machining usually corrects the slop.

which will account for the chamfer mismatch at the bottom of the bore. also, on the block side that has the large chamfer, notice it is not uniform around the bore. this is lack of casting uniformity. saw this my entire working career as a machinist working with castings. it becomes more apparent with cheap castings, or with castings having bad molds or core shift.

Thanks! Interestingly the cam bore is pretty much perfectly centered in the casting (which I was told is a good sign as it's a sign for limited core shift).
