Is it just me or are they a pain to install. I remember mine being difficult but I just ripped the upper corner of the $100 gasket. To me it didn't seat low enough.

Using a soapy/water solution in a spray bottle to aid in install?

Put the top edge of the glass in the molding first.I don't know why, but it makes a difference

Never tried that. I always assumed gravity was my friend and I would be less likely to mess up the sealant on the bottom, but the top corners are a hand full my way.

Okay, then you are supposed to pry the gasket into the metal channel with the glass in it? You write that you don't know why it helps but I wonder if the top corners are too sharp of a corner? The last glass I put in was a 65 Barracuda. Old glass, old gasket. I set the gasket in the channel after sealing the entire perimeter, set the glass in the bottom and just worked the plastic knife around each edge until it fit, then pushed in the locking strip.

I have a leaky windshield in my 70 Charger and am looking to redo it myself. The gasket and glass were new when the shop installed it. It has a lifetime warranty but I would rather learn it myself. I've installed 3 windshields in A-body cars and got them to seal right.

Never heard of that?...

I install the bottom first, starting from the bottom center, working to each bottom corner equally, then work from the bottom corners up each side of the A pillar equally each side, then work each upper corner to the top center equally...

Bottom up is how I was taught . The reason I put the brand name up in the title is AMD glass is as thick as OE. Some other after markets had thin glass like I used in my Valiant which goes in easier. Is one gasket better than another?

I start at the bottom also, been doing that way for years. I've had a couple gaskets that were more like soft rubber like the stuff they sell for window run channels... they tear way too easy. It's more like foam than rubber.

Gasket on the pinch weld, then windshield. Broke one doing bottom first, then looked in the shop manual. Early B-body. Top first seemed odd, but went right in. Worth a try.

I have had two of them installed in different B bodies in the last few years,
one guy had to start at the top corner and work it in from there,
The other car had an NOS MOPAR gasket and it went in OK bottom first.
He used foamy glass cleaner as the lube...

I just finished installing the windshield in my '64 B body Polara and the Dodge manual for that car stated to install the top of the windshield in the gasket first.

The gasket goes on the pinch weld first, not on the glass. Then the glass is inserted into the gasket on the top and the gasket is then worked onto the glass down both sides and across the bottom. You can't do it the conventional way with cord or twine pulling the gasket in place. You have to use a plastic tool or a thin smooth piece of wood to work the gasket in place.

Its a pain but can be done by one person if you take your time. Had my wife help me set the glass in place and I did the rest by myself. The total installation took about 3 hours including the locking strip. The gasket I used had an integral locking flange and didn't use the separate strip. Was much easier.

I will say that this installation reminded me of my sister-in-law. It was a real b-it-ch compared to the rear window, which went in the conventional way and took a total of 20 minutes to do.

Here's the locking flange.

Its official, its easier to do the top first but it takes two until you get some of the bottom gasket pulled up to support the weight.

You are right as the manual says to do it that way. I always did the opposite only because I never thought that it was necessary to look to the manual and I just did what I saw the professional glass installers do. I think a couple of suction cups would help. I will be installing mine in the near future and will try it top side in first and see how it goes.

Once we got the top and part of the sides in it made life easier to push the bottom of the gasket out from the inside as your helper runs the stick from the outside edge.
