This morning I got up and saw we had freezing rain again. Which means another liberal coating of salt on our roads, I began wondering when I might be able to take the Fiat out of the garage.

I like to wait until there is no more snow or need for salt on our roads. I also like to wait until the sand spread on our roads has been swept as well.

What is it like in your area and what do you look for as a sign to get the car out?

And I am fully expecting the non penguins to note that they drive all winter.

Wow if it really is a Fiat from what I remember those cars would rust if someone was eating a salted pretzel too close to them........ wink I try to wait until several good days of drenching rain to wash as much salt away and then maybe a long dry week afterwards. We have a pretty good set of hills that just happens to be a school bus route and it always gets salted even when other areas do not. I avoid those areas as much and as long as I can even if it means adding distance to a destination. My car is all original no rust sheet metal with 97,000+ miles on it because it avoided SALT most of its life. Worth the wait for as much salt to be washed away IMO.......especially a Fiat. laugh

Michigan here. I go check on the car in the storage unit in March and make sure everything is good to go fluid wise and check the battery (keep that at home) levels. Once the storage unit drive (gravel) is dry and solid enough I start thinking about it and clean our garage out ready to bring it home. I usually wait for 2 good heavy rains and then a dry day. Brought it home and it snowed some since then and salt was put on the roads. A few more rains before it hits the main roads, but fine for our subdivision since no salt trucks came down that. I usually do small things to it before I start driving it anyway. No room in the storage unit to work on it.

May thru September or October is about it for nice cars if you don't want to get them rained on. I saw snow briefly yesterday while outside.

Usually around this time of year. I wait for a few good rains to get salt and grime off road, then monitor roads on my daily drives and when it looks clean get the fun cars out.

As soon as the roads dry up I get started. Some years that can be as early as end of march, other years usually sometime in april. Here they wait forever and a day before they finally sweep the roads and I'm not waiting until june to get the toys out. They don't use much salt anymore but a lot of gravel. I know other guys who wait until june then only have their car out for 3 months out of the year before they pack it in.

2-3 hard rains after the last salting on the roads. We don't have sand or gravel.

Usually wait for the first couple of Spring rains to wash the grit off the roads (as stated). This year? May be late May, now...just had snow on Saturday and supposed to get snow again tomorrow (NW Iowa).

With close to 50" of snow in the month of April alone

Maybe July

And I have a brand new rebuilt stroker motor that I built, car has been sitting for over a year since it was last driven

Maybe normal temps next week but it’s going to take some serious rain to clean the roads

I wait until the snows been gone for a while and we've either had enough rain to clean the roads well or the street sweepers have gone by. It's usually by the end of april but some years it gets into may.
