This is my first time installing an NOS Mopar brushed trim ring on a new 14x6 Coker (Specialty) Road Wheel. I have pressed it on evenly, but do not know how far down it should be positioned. I measured the trim ring. The distance from the underside of the polished edge to the end of the tabs is 1 1/4 inch. I then measured the Road Wheel. If I measure down 1 1/4 inch from the edge of the rim, that puts the tab just shy of a groove or recess where the tab of the trim ring could lock into. But it will not reach down that far. So I am assuming the these trim rings do not lock in, but are held in place by tension from the tabs against the inside of the rim. Am I correct? Should there be a gap or space between the edge of the rim and the trim ring? If so, how much? If the trim ring can be pressed on to where it is flush with the edge of the rim, will that make it difficult to remove in the future? There will be no gap where a screw driver, etc. could be placed for prying upward to release the ring. I purchased (4) part no. 2944424 20 years ago and stored them away. The last thing that I want is for the trim ring to pop off while driving.

That's it, about a healthy 1/4" gap from the rim bead edge, that's the ugliness of factory 14" trim rings road or rallye.... When I ran 14"s I ran an aftermarket trim ring so that it contacted the rim's bead/edge

Thanks for the offer Mr. G. I found the receipt the other day. I paid $44.00 each for a total of $176.00. I thought that was expensive back then. The road wheels and trim rings are replacing the hub caps and 14" steel rims that came with the 71 Barracuda when we bought it back in 1971...had it for almost 47 years now.

I finally realized where the problem lies. My original theory was that the trim ring's tabs (clips) were providing so much tension against the inside of the rim/wheel, that I was not applying enough pressure to push the trim ring downward. So I decided to build a jig out of mdf that would squeeze the ring all the way on. But my theory was wrong. No matter how much pressure you apply, the trim ring will not contact the rim's bead/edge. The inner perimeter of the ring is simply too large to sit all the way down. It will not clear the inner ridge of the rim. I have attached a picture with arrows pointing to that area of contact. So yes, if you use factory 14" inch trim rings you will have to live with the 1/4' gap. Even with the gap, I love the look of the brushed finish against the repro Specialty Road Wheel.
