I have an early 1970 GTX with an early SPD of 806 that is painted FJ5.
I have been told that it is probably the first GTX in this color.
So now I'm wondering if it is the first of all the 1970 model year Plymouths painted this color?
Thanks!

There is no way to know.

FJ5 was available on at least two assembly lines at Hamtramck, one at LA, one in Windsor, one is St.Louis & one in Lynch Road.

So........

There is no way to know when or where the first FJ5 car was painted.

And since cars were not always built on their SPD, there is no way to know exact build dates anyway.

Just out of curiosity moparJohn, does the car have the original door Mylar tag? If so, what it the date on it? It's not going to answer your question like Barry said, I am just curious because of a past thread about it.

I had a similar situation with my 1971 GTX RS23U1G100327 with 803 spd .
It was an unrestored survivor in GY3 Curious Yellow . I often wondered myself how close it was to being the "first" GY3 71 GTX .
After finding part of the ST Louis newspaper dated Aug 10 under the carpet left by an assembly line worker, and finding the broadcast to another 71 GTX
with an 810 spd under the other half of my back seat , but only about 300 latter in the sequential number, I concluded my car was most likely built on Aug 10 instead of the 803 spd. As already mentioned ,Their is no way of knowing the answer to your question. . All you can do is say it is certainly one of the first to be painted that color .

Yes, The GTX still has the original mylar tag on the drivers door.
It reads AUGUST 1969 and then the vin number in the other spot.
I bought this GTX in March of 1970 with 8,000 miles on it and have stored it indoors and used it only as a race car. It's the one pictured in my avatar. It retains it's original paint, vinyl top, trim, stripes and much more!
Thanks for the replies!

Wow... I find that very interesting about the paper. I have heard of many different things found but first time for that.

Thanks for sharing.
