Ordering transmission rebuild kit plus convertor, the site has listings for both lock up and non lock up. How can I tell which one I have? Trans is 44RE.
Thanks.

How difficult is it to pull your trans pan now? If not bad see if on the side of the valve body you have two solenoids or one. If two it has lock up.

If you know that no one has messed with the trans go ahead and lost the PK number off the pan rail - with that we can see how it was built.

I would be surprised to see it not being a lock up unit.

Thanks transman, I'll try to get the number. I don't have the truck in my possession right now.

Literally every domestic car or truck has a lockup converter after at least 1990, easy easy bet.

Wow, those numbers are nearly impossible to read, they're not stamped they look like they're created with a center punch. This is what I think they are-
EX5249513AC 3396 5195. Do they make sense? The C might be an O. The EX could be PK. The 4 may be 11. I'll try to get a pic on here.

Only the 727 was offered in non-lockup in 1997.

All the A500/42-44RE were lockup in 1997.

So if no one had the unit out and made it a non-lockup odds are with you that it still is.

We stopped using number stamps and went to a pin stamping machine but don't remember what year that was.

Models for 1997 by part number are as follows :
