Ok, if stroking a 6.1 block, is a 4.25 stroke too much? I like the idea of a 440 cid G3, but not at the expense of longevity...
This would be for a N/A motor using the stock intake, heads, and valvetrain with minimum upgrades needed to make things work, if needed.
This motor will be used in a 2700lb drag car with a 727 behind it. Stock rocker gear and lifters will be used, so an approximate shift rpm would be around 6500-7K (I'm assuming).
I see a lot of 4.0x stroked motors, and a few 4.25 setups. Is the rod angle really that much worse/detrimental at 4.25?
Are main and head studs an absolute necessity?
I ask because I have a very low mile 6.1 motor and would consider installing new parts without having to take the block back into a machine shop for additional machining operations. If anything, I would get the block sonic checked for peace of mind.
Do the piston oilers get removed/plugged when increasing stroke over stock?
Thanks!
