I purchased a set of the Trick Flow 240 heads this winter in my quest to go a little bit faster. I know this isn't an apple to apple comparison, but figured maybe the info might be helpful to some out there to some real world numbers.

Old Combo:
440 .030 over
10.3:1
Scat rods
Speed Pro Pistons
.590 MP cam
Victor Intake
750 Holley
440 source heads

New Combo:
440 .040 over
10.9:1
Eagle Rods
Ross Pistons (1.094 pin)
.557 MP cam
Victor Intake
850 Proform
Trick Flow 240

I only got 1 test and tune in thus far on the new combo, but the old combo in similar weather condition ran mid 10.80's. Yesterday the new combo ran a best of 10.56.

I think the old 590 cam is a better cam then the 557 cam

Always good to get real world info, how good were the source heads?...I would think you were under carb'd anyway and the 850 would've picked up a 1/10th+ on old set up in fact a 950>1050 would probably be be faster dialed in. Depending on your weight tyre/g-ratio set up, I would've thought even the .590 would still be a tad under cammed w/trickflows as the 590 tends to go flat at around 6600 in the traps going by a friends 440 Dart (3150lbs) with his on track info, it was 12.7:1, 1050 Dom, Victor int. and that MP 590 cam. You have better heads than he had by a small margin. I think you would do better in upping the cam some, probably more in it as is yet though.

When we swapped the .557 to the .590 cam a few years ago the car picked up just a tad (Don't remember exact #'s off hand, but maybe a 1/2 tenth in the 1/8). I agree the engine needs a bigger cam and possibly carb. I have a uncle with a 950 that I'm going to try at some point. Budget was only so big this winter so did the heads and this up coming winter plan on doing a whole new shortblock and cam the motor for the new heads, etc. I'm shifting this combo at 6200, trapping at 6400, 4.56 gears, 31" tire.

The 440 source heads I had them hand ported 2 years ago. They increased the flow, but didn't really increase the port size. I picked up about a tenth from the poring in the 1/4, but I'd like to have tried the 850 on that to see how much that helped but ran out of time. On a side note when I went from closed chamber steel heads to the 440 source I picked up 2 tenths in the 1/4.

Yeah thats the same as Micks Dart ran, 4.56/31's, he had a 5000 stall, car was on SS springs and good dbl adj shocks, he ran a 950 for quite a while, then a 1050 Dom which picked up around 1 mph and perhaps a 1/10th but he started trapping at 6800+ and the motor threw a rod, (1/2" internal pick-up?), that motor was making around the 596hp mark with Eddy MCH 320cfm heads, he used to say that if he shifted at anything more than 6400 it would slow. I tried to persuade him to try my old CC.650" sft cam that came out my old motor for no money, wouldn't do it, reckon it would've picked up some and gone in the 9's, he was on 10.10's....just some info for ya.
