I would like to know if anyone has had their original emblems restored (in particular - the trunk lock cover) from a Barracuda Gran Coupe.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

That's a tuff item, and costly to have restored, finding someone that wants to touch a 50 yr old emblem like that is the hardest part, depending on how aged the Zinc is, it might dissolve in solution during the de-chroming process

better off buying nice used or NOS, you'll be spending the same amount of $$$, and depending on the resto work may not even look close to original

Dayclona,

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't seen anyone mention they do them, which is why I ask. It's such a prominent part visually on a Gran Coupe that it bothers me to have a less than great looking one on there after getting the rest of the car restored. I currently have 5 that I've picked up over the years. Most are very nice...Just their coloring is gone (or, at least not crisp). I haven't seen an NOS one for sale in quite a while, other than one listed recently that had no color in the badge.
I guess a good follow up question would be, "Anyone have mint or NOS badging for these cars?"

Thanks!

NOS Door/fender emblems are still around...The trunk lock cover is tougher to find...Don't go by Ebay pricing or condition on Gran Coupe parts most seem to be smoking crack with the craziness..."Good" condition is in the eye of the beholder I guess...
Year One had some trunk emblems repoped years ago and there's some of those that turn up from time to time...The trouble with those is the casting material was too soft and the spring mechanism gave it up within a short time...Y-1 had a big backlash of them coming back but some escaped...So watch for those as "NOS" pieces...A quick tip-off with those is the outer perimeter of the emblem doesn't have the textured argent treatment...
Note that the emblem did in fact have the clear acrylic "lense"over the painted surface of it like the other badging...Most used pieces you find will be missing it...
And for your viewing pleasure here's an NOS emblem that sold a few years back...

I restored the originals for my 71 Gran coupe. Now the chrome was in very good shape so the restoration just consisted of painting the reliefs and pouring in clear self leveling clear epoxy. I also did some extra trunk locks at the time but have since sold those to others looking for them.

I have a pair of NOS 71 style door badges, the glue on ones, I would part with if you needed them. Keep a watch out on ebay every once in a while NOS 70 style, with pins to attach to the fenders, come up and occasionally the 71 styles do as well. The trunk lock covers are a little tougher to find in NOS. I would keep a look out for a used one with nice chrome and if you're lucky it will have nice argent paint around the perimeter. Even if you had someone rechrome these emblems I don't suspect the detail would be that nice

I personally would stay away from repros. I bought a set of the first ones out from year one about 1987 and the plastic fell out after about 6 months in the garage, they replaced but those fell out as well. Also the detail in the casting was not all that great. I'm not sure if the repros around now are from that initial batch or a subsequent one.

Attached are two photos of trunk lock covers I have restored. The one with the scratches in the argent paint is actually the original argent and the other I sprayed with a rattle can argent.
