Engine wont fire after sitting a couple/few weeks without dumping gas down the carb. I don't think its the new Edlebrock 800 cfm accelerator pump. Its still running the oem fuel pump and I've done heads, cam, intake, etc. Been told I should think about upgrading it.

Can anyone recommend a good replacement for it?

Thank you.

The Carter mechanical race pump is a good pump, although you will want a regulator. They make one that is supposed to b limited to 5-6 psi, but I've seen as high as 10 from two of them. That's what I have on my car now.

The Carter bowls are vented. With today's gas evaporating the way it does, there is nothing you can do about it sitting. If I haven't fired mine in more than 2 weeks I just automatically dump some gas down the carbs and fire it up.

I've used the Carter race pump on a few builds w/ no regulator...no problems.

Edelbrock makes a good mechanical pump. I can tell you for a fact it won’t solve the dry bowl issue. After three days I still need to pour gas down the carb. Before then it’s golden.

You need to add an electric if you want to stop the problem you are having. You need one that will let fuel go through when offunless you want to ditch the mechanical altogether. Just running an electric for a few seconds will fill the bowls when dry

I've run the Carter but with a Holley red pump, I'm going with a Quick Fuel electronic pump now.

Have a great day

My two carb vehicles run electric pumps... for good start after sitting and to eliminate hot weather vapor lock and heat soak issues. Even the best mechanical pump will not help in these areas. Current specification gas just does not work well with carb and mechanical pump.

I'll suggest the Carter electric for your application.
