Probably this has been addressed before but I have been unable to find a thread. So I apologize if this is a duplication and has already been answered.

I have a 1969 Roadrunner. It is not a numbers matching drive train, but I believe it is at least to be date correct. The Serial Number of the Vin matches the Serial number on the Fender Tag, but not the Engine. Casting Codes and Date seem to verify in my unprofessional view that at least the engine is correct for the car, just not "the" engine.

Is there anyway to tell from the Serial Number on the Engine/Transmission where it came out of or from?

I realize that most of these cars were driven hard back in the day. I had one back in the early 70's, so I have some experience with that. But as these engines failed, were they just rebuilt and thrown into another car and flipped around, or are they replacement engines? Just curious.

Thanks

Some plants only made certain models which also varied by model year.

Some people have also recorded known numbers for decades.

So what is the partial VIN on the passenger side of the block?

That would be the best place to start.

There should be two more (a number & a letter) in front of it.

Also, what letter is right in front of the engine size on the id pad?

I don't know the answer to that one 71birdJ68. I'll try to find where you are referring. It may take a few days.

If the C is a poorly stamped 0, then 0A would be a 1970 model from the Lynch Road plant.

Lynch Road was B-body only for '70.

Is the letter on the pad that 71birdJ68 mentioned an F ?

Clear photos of both pads would help if you can get some?

The 2nd pad mentioned is up on top by the front of the intake manifold mounting surface.

383, or 440? 383, it will be on the machine part kind of behind the distributor, 400 just like he said big pad in front of the intake.

0A106944 = partial VIN from a '70 Plymouth B-body

Casting Date: 6*10*69
Casting Code: 2468130 = 383 cu.in.

the top pad on a 383 is located under the distributor scope

F is the Series (model year) 1970

383 & HP are what you think.

8 21 is the final assembly date for the engine.
