is it worth the time and expense of rebuilding and running the older dominators.

That definitely falls into the "it depends" catagory.......for a few different reasons.

It depends........ On the current condition of the carb

It depends......... On how much $$$ you're willing to spend on it

It depends........ On the combination you want to put it on

It depends......... On what the intended usage is

If the carb is in generally good condition and will be used on a race car application making less than about 700-750hp....... It's probably cost effective to reuse it.

Like Fast says, I've seen some real nice older carbs and I've seen some stuff that looks like it was yanked out of the sea. Older Hollet bowls don't flow as well as the newer QF stuff. Metering block technology is certainly different. Mods to the main housing might be required. Newer style external linkage is definitely a plus. So yeah, it all depends. How fast do you want to go?

I ran 8.60 for years with one and I think it’s still downstairs on a shelf. I am a top bulb delay box racer so my tuning window is pretty simple compared to a bottom bulber or a street car.

I bought both of 1050's used, rebuilt them and they work great on my Indy tunnel Ram. Got all of the air bleeds and jetting adjusted and tuned on dyno. A/f ratios are good at idle, cruise and wot. Runs great on the street, revs like a small block. Runs like it is efi.

This one is in decent shape, has new metering block on primary side.

its for the 511 Dewayne.
Carb we had built for the Charger had emphasis on throttle response/drivability and was for a standard shift car.
Have enough money in it and dyno tuning with it I really hate to start tweaking it for 1/8 mile wot runs.

Have this domy sitting here so thought- hmmmm?

4150 to 4500 adapter ( tall) a shear plate and- hmmmm?

My thoughts are: If I can get the car to run 9.90-9.94 in good spring air I should be able to run 10.0 all summer without "hunting" and beating things up hard.
Good spring air doesn't last long down here, we get pretty hot and humid pretty quick and then it just gets hotter and more humid.
.10 under seems to be a good number for down here as far as dealing with air differences over the season.

Thoughts?
Im wide open to : uhh, thats dumb.

In short, I need a carb and thought this old thing might help us pick up a tad of power as well.

still looking like we will hit pretty close to 3000 lbs, if over, not much.

I started cutting my own weight right before thanksgiving- Im down 53 lbs , 177 right now, hope to hit 170 by testing.
Car has lost more weight faster- grin.

8.40’s@160 mph felt better but that was with a different combo and a new style 3 circuit carb. I have one for my 572 being built at APD right now (1250). I had my Indy Tunnelram for sale and ended up doing some horse trading with the owner there.

Kinda keeping my eye open for a tunnel ram - but not at your level- grin.

Next engine build will be max wedge ports and that opens some other possibilities .
Fwiw- I am having fun already !

Just out of curiosity - what does your duster weigh?

Air/ fuel readout/ sensors - anything out there that’s reliable and doesn’t cost a great deal?

My black Duster weights 2860 with me in it last year. Slightly more now because the driver did a lot of eating and azz sitting over the Winter. I have no idea of how much my heads up Duster is going to weight because it was a small block before and now it will be a big block.

Said it before and I'll say it again, your cars are some of the most impressive I've seen ESPECIALLY because you do most of everything yourself and like myself, aren't rich so you work/spend wisely............ bow twocents

The non-HP 8896 should have bar boosters in it, not annulars unless it's been modified. The annulars are worth doing, I've had one car gain a tenth in the 1/8 on a 2 circuit 8082 with a booster change and minor recalibration. The only downside on the older carbs is having to thread the air bleed passages for removable bleeds and if switching to an annular booster having to machine the newer banjos to fit the old bodies. Otherwise they do work well.
