I need to rebuild the upper/lower control arms on my 69 Satellite. I wondering if spending the extra money and getting the QA1 upper/lower controls arms and strut rods is worth it. I want to keep my stock k member. Any advice is there a better setup out there?

Thanks,

Steve

Uppers, yes. Lowers, maybe but you can beef up stockers pretty cheaply. Strut rods, I see no advantage.

With the aftermarket uppers you can get a decent amount of caster with without the offset bushing.

I have the qa1 uppers on my Dart, after I stripped the factory upper trying to remove the ball joint I had no choice, the qa1 is a nice piece and front end alignment is awesome!

My thought is definitely on the uppers and recommended for the lower control arms. You can beef up stock lower ones by welding one of those plates on the bottom, but you still have an old lower control arm that's seen how many years of abuse. I don't remember the stats but the QA1 lower was appreciably stronger than a stock one.

The strut rods I would highly recommend simply because they pivot more smoothly than a stock rod setup would, and they look fantastic on the car.

QA1 spent a lot of time trial fitting OEM and QA1 parts in all combinations, to make sure you could pick and chose what parts you wanted to use. I know this because they borrowed my 69 Coronet some years back to do all the trial fitting, measuring, etc.

The young guy who did most of the work was very detail oriented and careful with each setup. You can accuse me of bias, but I think you'd be hard pressed to beat their stuff.

You can look up QA1 K member online and see a video they made, again using my car, showing how the K member swap is done. There are some good shots of the control arms, etc, so you can judge for yourself how good the stuff is.

Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way

I bought the QA1 UCA for my ‘69 GTX, and they are very nice, and well built!

I did install the Hotchkis Strut Rods with the front Heim Joint, and the Hotchkis anti-sway bar, however I like the original LCA better...they just look stronger to me, and work well with the parts above.

I did modify my K-Member by getting rid of the motor mounts, flat trim around the edges, and cut out the center for a large aluminum Charlies Oil pan that Indy sells. Worked out very well, and with the Motor plate, I really don’t notice any vibration.

My 2 cents...
