I don't think he is a very versed MoPar guy, I do however like his taste in original cars though. Im hearing him talk about the car and some seems a lil nonsense. He said you have to have the car in reverse to get the key out for example. None of my Mopars are that way.

just lil things didn't make sense to me.

That goofy feature was also present in my '73 Z28. Wasn't hard to disable.
I'm pretty sure that started when the ignition switches were moved to the columns for 1970 models.

1970 is also the first year for the clutch safety start switch.
Car will not start unless clutch is depressed.

I think it had a lot to do with the car companies trying to second guess what would be Federally Mandated or not. A lot of cars did this but only in 1970. Mopars for sure but even on some 1970 AMC's! My Gremlin 3-speed is the same way - it's supposed to go into reverse before you can shut the engine off. However, it doesn't have a clutch safety switch and AMC would not until something like 1984.

Did any Mopars have the Safety Belt interlock system? Where, if there is pressure in the seat, the seatbelt must be fastened before it would allow the car to start? The AMC's actually had an emergency defeat switch under the hood because they knew how problematic the system would be! It only effects 1974 cars though. They got rid of it - quick!

I never heard of Ford or GM using a system like that.

1974 only in Mopars.
The big three all had problems with the federally mandated seat belt interlock system.
The general public and the auto manufacturers complained to the point that it was dropped by the feds for 1975.

I just finished re-wiring a 74 Challenger to 1973 specs. I did a total gut of all the junk under the hood and behind the instrument cluster.
Looks "factory" without the B.S.

The interlock parts go for huge money to the proper resto guys, for most it was the first thing to go in the junk pile when these cars were new.

The 70 automatic cars (column or console) also had the interlock . . .
