on my 79 LRE there is an emissions tube that bolts to the rear of the passenger side exhaust manifold. i assume its for the EGR system. its rotted in half..

my question is what is the official name of this tube so i can look it up. does anyone have a part number and or source for the part?

thanks,
joe

It should go to the smog pump. The EGR was all in the intake manifold?

there is no pump.. never was.. this comes off the manifold, through a check valve? then tot eh bottom of the air cleaner.. gess its easy enough to eliminate all together but i'd liek to reinstall one if possible..

not sure if this is the correct name, but when this stuff was new, we called those "diverter" valves. was very common for those to rot out, so most of the time, they were just removed, and the opening capped off. hope this may be of some help, or point you in the right direction

Aspirator Tube and valve

At least that is what they were called when they were on the 2.2 engines

Exactly correct. Does the plumbing go to the air cleaner?

What it does is use the negative pressure impulses to draw fresh air from the air cleaner into the exhaust stream. A "budget" smog pump system. Were it mine, I'd plug the manifolds and air cleaner and forget about it. There were factory block off plugs for the manifolds or you can fabricate something as you'll have to do for the air cleaner if you choose this route.

On my E58 equipped 79 Cordoba that tube goes to the air cleaner. Makes a gurgly sound when you take the air cleaner lid off while engine is running.

yes it goes to the bottom of the air cleaner... if it was something easy to find i was gonna replace it.. may just remove it and be done with it then...

Pretty sure I got my replacement from the dealer (pipe and valve). That was a while ago, but may be worth a try.

My '77 318 Volare` had the same arrangement. I removed the entire assembly, cut the flange off the exhaust manifold side of the assembly, welded a disc in the flange tubing hole to make a plug, and reinstalled it on the exhaust manifold. Drove it that way for nearly 100,000 miles before I sold the car. I did something with the air cleaner end too but I can't remember what.
