I've seen a few of them listed for sale in the 20s in the past year?

With that many miles id say yes,the ones ive seen in the 20-s are low mile, like under 25k.

But that would be a good starter if one ever wanted one of them and can turn the wrenches.

in my opinion the car was perfect for the time.
they were only supposed to sell for mid 20's. the dealers sold every one they built for 20K mark up.
the next year they raised the MSRP price 10K. the dealers marked them up 20K and still sold every one they could get their hands on.
the next year they raised the MSRP 10K and then the dealers marked them up 20K and sold every one.

the next year they discontinued it because they determined 2 door cars don't sell.
if they actually mass produced the car they would have sold well. i would have bought one new, but i will NEVER buy a car for 20K over msrp.

Can you imagine how they would be nowadays with the modern V6's? I am waiting for someone to swap in a Hellcat engine! devil I have seen one with a 5.7 and there were some serious mods that had to happen... work

iagree
I would have bought one at MSRP, but between dealer markups and really high insurance cost (because of the aluminum frame) it just wasn't happening. They've held their value very well. I'd still love to have one.

That's the first high miler I've seen. Looks to be holding up ok. I still can't understand what they were thinking putting in a v6 and an automatic.

That seems like an okay price for a little street rod. I don't know much about those cars but I would expect some repairs bills.

I always thought that a 426 Hemi in one of those would be sick. Get rid of the sides of the hood, and put a huge set of chrome headers on it! The car has an aluminum frame so the power to weight ratio would be crazy! With a nine grand buy in,this one is ripe on the vine for modification!

They were expensive to insure because they were expensive (for the time period) to buy, and because parts were expensive, and because it's a 2 seat sports car...well, at least on paper.

Tell me about it, my old rusty $500.00 1995 Neon Sport was almost as much a month as my 2012 Challenger R/T Classic is now for car insurance. When I complained why so high they said because it is a "2 door sports car" and also basically due to all of the F&F whanabee kids with their Neon SRT4's that the Neon was one of the highest wrecked & totalled cars on record.

Yeah, love them or hate them, 9K was a steal even with the high miles. Kudos to the previous owner for driving the crap out of it! He got his moneys worth.

When we bought our 85 Shelby Charger turbo in 86 the dealer said they sold 17 of them, ours was one of three left IN A YEAR! eek

It has a rebuilt motor. Passenger side in front of rear wheel has a chunk of body missing.

Yep, full life. Hopefully, I'll be around long enough to see what a 20 year old Hellcat in that condition goes for.
