Anyone know of a source to find the dimentions of ARP head studs for big blocks? The short ones (for the bottom row of head studs) that are in the B1 kit are too long. They measure 2.750" and I need some that measure 2.500". I know that I can call ARP in the am, but trying to find a kit that I can use the short studs out of tonight. Maybe a stock kit will work or one for Indy heads?

Thanks, Brian

Doesn't ARP list their B1 head stud kit for your heads? If you have their part number now I would call them and get you the correct parts to you ASAP for no charge.
What is the part number of the kit your using? The reason I'm asking is the first B1 kit I bought was going to come with 51 CC heads, I didn't want that small of a chamber so I ended up getting them with 76 CC shruggy
I have a set of B1-MC heads now that I haven't CC yet so knowing your kit number may help me later luck
Thanks in advance up

Not 100% sure of the kit number Cab, but I talked to Scott Koffel today, and he confirmed that the studs in the ARP B1 kit is the same length as the studs that I have on this engine (2.750"). From what he told me about the deck surface thickness of these heads compared to stock (as they were when they left his place) it looks as if these heads have been milled about .200". The bottom row of studs had to have two washers (on each stud) to keep the nuts from running out of threads, and even then, there was almost .500" stud sticking out of the nut (looks really shade tree to me!). And this is with .065" head gasket. What don't make any since to me is the long studs only had one washer and approx 2 threads above the top of the nuts.
Hard for me to believe that ARP would sell a kit that didn't fit any better than this.
These are B1-MC heads also.

This engine was brought to me to be repaired. It has been through AT LEAST 3 different owners since it left Koffel's. I am trying to fix stupid stuff now.

You have to get the following head studs: AP2.725-1B

These are 2.725" long but also have a longer coarse threaded portion: 1.150" vs. 1" (screw in deeper into the block).

Summit can order them for you.

The studs come in an ARP kit as well - part number for the kit is 134-4201 (small block Chevy). The kit comes with 16 of the shorter studs and 4 studs in 4.150" and 14 studs in 4.750"
