Need your help, as many of you may know, Stage 5 rockers will not fit under stock Hemi valve covers. I have read you can stack 2 sets of valve cover gaskets. I have verified that this is correct. I am purchasing .188 valve cover spacers from Mancini racing. I would like your input on the best gaskets to use on both sides of the shims. I suppose I feel better about having a shim in between two gaskets, like a windage tray.

Thanks Bob, by the way, it is a shame to conceal such good looking rockers under the valve covers.

The best gasket I have found is a brand call Realgaskets, made here in Tennessee. They are molded silicone with a fiber glass core. I haven't noticed any leake, and they are reusable. Call 800-635-7325, and ask if they can be stacked like you were thinking. I was thinking about doing the same spacer thing with my motor, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I just went through this with my Landy rockers hitting the stock valve covers. I dimpled the valve covers where they were hitting. With the wrinkle paint, you can't even tell. That helped, but there was still a place or two that just touched.

I used the Fel Pro Performance gaskets, which are 2 rubber/cork gaskets laminated to a wire mesh. They are really thick.

Then I put a washer under the spark plugs to space the tubes up. No more rocker to valve cover contact and no other problems. Probably not a perfect fix, but it seems to work.

And I would like to try the silicone gaskets mentioned above. The rubber/cork seal good, but need several re-torques.

Thanks for the response. I considered wacking, dimpling the valve covers but decided against it. I found the valve cover spacer on Mancini's web site and decided to go that route. I would like to use the thinnest but best gasket possible. I called Mancini and the spacer cannot be used as a gasket, so it needs to be sandwiched between two gaskets. The spacer is .188 thick. Mancini sell spark plug tubes, and o rings, that are 1/2 taller than stock.
I guess the big question now is what gaskets to use????????

Thanks again Bob,

There are chrome valve covers (66-69 style) that Stage V rockers will fit under but maybe you want the as delivered look.

Thanks Rick I know that there are valve covers available that would clear the rockers but I am trying to use the original covers.
Thanks Bob

Use two gaskets and get longer tubes. I got tubes from Tim @ FHO.

Lets see some pics of that hemi six-pack.
I would like to have ran a six-pack but i didn't think it would flow enough for a hemi. I have the manual six-pack setup on my 383 presently.
What do you have for clutching and trans??

Mopar had longer tubes available also, made for top fuel cars. Call a Top Fuel team, they will help. Most are super nice people. Maybe glue the Mancini spacer to head and use one gasket?
I like the mechanical 6 Pack too, just built one for my 440. I think if you calculate the airflow test pressure difference, the 6 pack is around 960 CFM? Changing the center carb from 350 CFM to a 500 CFM would help. Maybe I need one for my hemi??? Does the 6 pack work good on a short runner intake?

Thanks for all the input. I purchase .188 spacers from Mancini Racing and I purchased Fel-Pro 1657's, thickness .094, to install on each side of the spacer. Plenty of seams for leaks.

Thanks Guys

After reading this I ordered some of the silicone gaskets from Realgasket. Hopefully these will stop the leaks I am always chasing with my stock covers.

Lee646;

What was the problem you were having, stacked gaskets????

I was worried about stacked gaskets, so I am using a spacer, sandwiched between two gaskets, I was thinking about Real gaskets as well as Best gaskets out of Calif. Summit racing is just too easy. I thought Best Gaskets has a great head gasket.

Good luck with your leak..... both of us!!!!!!!!!!

Rattrap; Just emailed you a pic of my Hemi six pac. Hopefully one of these days it will be mounted between the frame rails. It looks so good on the engine stand I feel like it should be put in my Living Room!!!! Hope my wife doesn't see this. As far as a tran; I can't drive a big block/Hemi with an auto. I kept the Torquflite, put it on the shelf, I will be running a Tremec 5 speed, 3.54 rear gears in a 67 GTX.

No, I dimpled my stock black wrinkle covers and even though I straightened out the rails and used the good Fel-pros, it seems like I always find a drip somewhere. These silicone ones might be just what I need.
