They did an episode on Ralph Gilles that is very good. If you like cars and how they are designed check it out.

Is this show available anywhere else?

Perhaps on a delayed basis?

I watched it and it made me sad. In a lot of ways my life started very similar to Ralph's. I spent most of my time in middle and high school sitting at the back of a classroom sketching cars. A lot of what I drew predicted cars that were eventually built. I remember working at a Jeep-Eagle dealer in 1995 and walking past a line of Eagle Talons and realizing that I'd drawn that car 5 years earlier.

Coming from a family of engineers I didn't know anything else and it was expected that was the path I had to follow. Someone should have told me after my first year of college didn't go well that I was cut out to do something different. As a stupid teenager I needed someone to recognize, like Ralph's Aunt did, that I had more potential elsewhere.

Duffman,

At sometime in your life you might be able to become more of a designer.

I think engineering would be a good back ground for design.

It might be after retirement but don't totally give up on your dream.

Good Luck with it!
Bill

Automotive design was my first choice too but things didn’t work out. In retrospect while that is/was a passion I’m a much better architect than I would ever have been a designer.

I have always respected Ralph, but even more so after that. He truly loves the company, as long as he is there the enthusiast's voice will be heard.
