Can lifters be swapped between big block and small blocks?
If not what is the difference?

Ive went through this recently, unless they are full body solids they dont mix.

The oiling band on the smblk and bb is at a different level and so is the position of the pushrod cup. So even if the oiling band that keep oil in the lifter was workable on both if you used BB lifters on a SMBLK youd spend more on the new pushrods then the right lifters.

you can fit SBs lifters on a BB but I think not the other way around due the oiling groove hight difference

At least in my experience the pushrod lenght change is not true. I'm using 2011s ( SB lifters ) on my BB without any length or fitting problem

several performance aftermarket brands offer the same lifters for both and they look like the 2011 kind lifters

I wondered about that. If the 2011 lifter fits LA, B and RB, Chrysler could have economized and used it for everything instead of the 976.

Before PAW shut down, ordered BB hydraulic lifters and got SSI 2011. Saving them for next cam change. As long as they work I don't care.

Comp shows the same lifter for 273-360 and 68 up 383-440, #822-16.
Back in the early 70s when working at the Dodge place, if we needed a lifter, there was only one they stocked, can't remember the #.
Hec, you can use an AMC lifter also, oils through the pushrods to rockers.

3614321 was the SB hyd lifter. Can`t remember what the BB lifter number was but it was different.
Update: my 73 parts book shows 318 hyd lifter number 3549989 and 340 360 hyd lifter 3004643 which I`m sure they superseded to 3614321. The BB lifter was 3004647.
