Hello

What is the threaded hole next to the dip stick tube for? Looks like it goes down to the pan. I was missing my dip stick tube so not sure if anything was ever in there.

Also while cleaning up the trans I found the last 4 of my sequence number hand written on the top of the case. Almost didn't see it. Never would once installed in the car.

Earlier models used a dipstick held in not only by the bell housing bolt at the top but that bolt at the bottom of the dipstick tube. The bottom bolt is not required as long as you have the correct tube that places the dipstick tube o ring down in the bore like it is supposed to.

It's for threading that bolt into. :-)

some early dipsticks tubes had a tab welded to the base that a bolt would go through......

Tube ends. The tab was discontinued in '69.

Thanks for the photo. Never seen one with a tab.
