It appears to be a factory Black truck.

But the options aren't adding up to it being a Midnight Express if they are essentially a black LRE.

My son has one in the garage. It was stored in a friens shop for close to 20 years when he got it.The OE owners had it and gave it to my friend for soem work.Motor was blown.Replaced it with a built 360.Bed was shot as was most of the wood sides. Its been sitting in my other garage since 99 or so.Rocky

Yeah, I assumed it is a clone especially with the way it is worded. (See Rhinodart's post) It was a Black truck with a 360 4V. I don't know enough about the Midnight Express as to whether it was a factory truck or dealer built. If they were dealer built then this could have been one when sold new. I've also read they were 1978 only and mostly 440 powered. There is very little information about them and the information available may be totally wrong.

They are awesome looking trucks. But I would also like to know more about them.

The real Midnite Express trucks were 1977 trucks. They had 440 engines, there were 69 of them built.

Where is this info? I read the LRE 360 & 440 was available on the MNE.

Being a 1980, I doubt that it's anything more than an owner or maybe even dealer creation.

I thought the Midnight was just a black version of the LRE, and the 440 was a Warlock option?

I know also once I read somewhere that dealers were instructed paint these trucks. I think in a metal flake paint?. I am looking to see if I saved that info (correct or not)
