Are you using the stock motor mount location and using the front accessory drive for the OEM water pump and alternator?

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. The headers are botched to say the least. They are actually cheapo pacesetter 1 3/4 headers for ram pickup with early port heads. So port alignment is not even close for the eagles. Reworked a couple tubes on each side to make them fit. A good set of headers would probably make a noticeable improvement. We don't run any accessories or alternator. Used a truck timing cover and rigged a moroso pump drive to the factory water pump. The mounts are a combination of Schumacher BB perches and street and performance engine mounts.

For the early Dak with a G3 hemi swap, might want to look at the A-body G3 Hemi headers.

I'd be surprised if A body headers will fit. The passenger side upper control arm
Is very close to the head. The frame also angles inward directly behind the engine with the rear lower control arm mount also taking up valuable space. It's just tight.

ric3xrt I appreciate your input. I looked at different headers for hours trying to find some that I thought I could make work. Even some LS and Ford headers. I was willing to cut off the flange and weld on a hemi flange but there didn't seem to be any that looked close. So after all of that, said heck with it and bought some cheapos and went to hacking. sawzall weld

I'm just wondering what the early 5.7 heads would do with the same cam-combo. Maybe a little port work on the heads too. Sounds so enticing with the parts starting to flow with the Gen lll hemi.

when I mocked up an actual eagle head and early short block and standard head gasket it came out to around 11.5 compression. With the fast burn chambers, double quench pads, EFI, dual spark plugs, plastic intake... I would bet you would be totally fine on premium pump fuel. The only problem you might run into is if your tuner gets too agressive with the timing, these things really don't need much. Heck the apache is 10.9 and you know the factory is going to be very conservative on compression for emmisions reasons (NOX specifically). I think a low buget early 5.7 short block with a 6.1 cam and eagle heads/intake would be a buget motor to be reckoned with.

I usually look on craigslist. I found a nice complete core for $300 that dropped a valve seat a couple months ago. The early models seem harder to find around here though. Here are some examples in my area.

They seem to go fast when they are cheap. I have a couple extras, so I don't even look for more now because I don't need more junk laugh2

Last one I bought was a '12 with 34k but block was broke. Paid less than heads are worth. Plus got a perfect rotating assembly, lifters, rockers, etc.

09 and up are cheaper it seems than the earlier ones. Guess it's a supply/demand thing.

The cheap stuff is usually broken or blowed up. The engine we used in the build was a core. The customer had overheated it and popped the head gaskets. I didn’t want to put headgaskets on it and risk it dropping a valve seat. So we put a set of eagles and fresh gaskets on it and rolled on. Our latest engine is one we bought with a broken rod. Had a hole in the block the size of a quarter. Welded it up and then put a fresh rod and piston and put it back together. If you want something that is low miles and drop in ready, prepare to drop some cash...

looks like the ones I do find are with Blown Head gaskets. found a few but with High Miles most likely out of a truck. I will continue my search. I would guess even if I had to do a rebuild it is still a fair deal if I can off all my small block stuff.

Thank you

Sometimes it's easier to buy Durango or 300/Charger Magnum ,Not sure about your area but here in SE PA. a wrecked or blown up Durango/300/Charger pops up once every two weeks,$750ish-3k
Also try GOVDEALS dot com, I've bought a bunch of car/trucks off of there over the last few years. , last week bought a 2010 police Charger, opening bid was $200 closing bid was $256.00 ,80k mile car hit in the rear
Month ago bought a 2014 Ram 3500 6.4 45k , it was a rollover truck opening was $500, closed at $500.
