I have a 71 RR340 w/ac. I would like to put a single 4bbl 426H in it, however it looks like the a/c lines coming out of the firewall might have interference with the valve covers, maybe not even enough room for 90 degree fittings. Anyone have engine compartment pics of a 71 Hemi B-body. Thanks, Steve

You can make anything work, but there was a reason you couldn't get a Hemi with air.

a friend of mine used to own a 71 charger with a 612 hemi in it. other than trimming the air cleaner everything bolted on.

he used indy heads and intake.

here is his old car on youtube. the new owner is driving the car in the videos. the car is in Sweden now.

The 71 B body G-Series wingcars that I built/fabricated were HEMI equipped running Sanden compressors positioned under the alternator, all the firewall AC components were factory issue

A/C wasn't available because the A/C compressor hits the air cleaner.
trim the air cleaner base and you can have A/C on your hemi or 440+6 car.

It wasn't available due to expected RPM use. Didn't want ricky the racer blowing up his AC compressor trying to win and not be sweaty. The factory was more than smart enough to figure out how to trim the air cleaner housing.

It can totally be done & I like the "Sanden compressor under the alternator" idea myself. MANY years ago I bought a six pack air cleaner that had been trimmed to clear a factory A/C compressor, so this type of thing has been done for a long time...you wouldn't be the first by any stretch.

I'm no expert on this, but I would suggest you put a lot of consideration into your engine cooling system & keep the motor relatively mild.

I've often heard that but I believe the 383 has equal/more RPM potential.

If you want to hack up a 1500.00 base plate set then you can make the old a/c compressor work with the shaker and a single carb. This is a 340 here. Not with multiple carbs though.

Did you have to ditch the factory mech. Fuel pump to run the a.c. under the alt.? Pics showing how you had it mounted?

Yes the aftermarket kit uses the fuel pump boss for the front mount, which was ok in these applications as we had decided to run an electric pump from the start of the project

Thanks for all the replies. I will not running the Airtemp compressor, Engine will be a 472 w/solid cam and the Mopar dp intake, About what the crate motor from Mopar was. Nothing radical. Car has the original 26" rad probably needs re-cored anyway. It's not a fresh air car. The 340 in the car is tired Iv'e got everything besides heads and crank from having a complete 426H, But it's the only A/C hobby car I got and would stay a 340 if butchery was involved. FWIW a friend bought a spirit of 76 d-150 new, 318 auto with air, within 2 wks of purchase it rolled out of his garage with a 68 426 and still with air.

we make the above kit with mechanical water pump or electric water pump. this is still in the mock up phase but the few that are out testing are working really well
