US GEAR is now making Pro Gear DANA 60 ring and pinions in these formally unavailable ratios( like not made in the last 20 + years)

5:57

5:86

6:17

Now they just need to add 6:50s !

Thanks US GEAR for keeping the Dana 60 from becoming obsolete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dana I have I got from under a 55 Chevy 327 4 speed street car, 5.86s, ran a 12 inch slick. This was all back in the mid 70s early 80s. Just about every Chevy in those times had a 5.57 or lower, my friends 64 modified Vette had a 6.86! and sometimes a 7.17! I think it had 6 teeth on the pinion.(Dana) Left the line on the wood, no 2 step! 9000 rpm and up. The one he has now (Gran Am) has a 257 ci with a 7.50 gear. (ford)
I'm a Mopar guy but those cars launching and shifting where music to my ears. Allen said his eyeballs would move back and could see out both doors at the same time.

I wonder if those 5.86 gears are available for the front axles as well.

I guy I work with has a 69 Camaro with 6.00 gears in it.
It is a 496 ci. Big block Chevy and he sprays it with a 250 shot of Nitrous.
He said it runs 5.20's in the 1/8.
I thought that was way too low a gear for Nitrous.

1.33 60 ft,6.21 at 110.59 in the 1/8, pump gas small block,2950lbs,drag radials,mufflers and driven to track ...

They are doing this because everyone now wants to run 1/8 mile (half a race) but now want to try and use all their engine to get there quicker. Yep - less breakage that way whistling and yes that is why they are making them!

Think about it, tight converter you need that gear reduction. Have you seen what gear the pro stock boys run? Most mopar engines are dead at 6000 (I know there are a few who buzz them) so I guess they only need those 4.10 gears. What gets me is you have a head that flows 500 cfm and you turn it 7000, a lot left on the table.

You better go watch Mike's small block then. It's not some lazy J headed or even w2 setup. I bet his tach starts at 6k.

I know a guy with a Super Stock 318 Aspen that uses mid-high 5.xx ratios and it wouldn't surprise me if a 5.38 could be used in a Stock class 340 stick car in the 1/4. Heavier cars can sometimes use more ratio also.

Maybe enough people are getting away from the more expensive and less efficient Ford 9", making these Dana 60 ratios worthwhile to manufacture.

Comp cars and what use to be Modified production like all that ratio too with their itty bitty engines.

We have run a 5:56 Dana for longer than I can remember in a drag race car. It is not unusual to see folks looking for the ratios above for drag race cars.

With 32 and 33 inch tall tires the effective ratio is higher than you would think.

Even w/ big tires on an 1/8 mile car, I don't know anyone running anywhere near that much gear. We ran a 5.00 gear in the Camaro with 436" sbc, glide and 29.5x10.5 tires. Turning about 7400 rpm.
