I haven't tested the 440-2 with the adapter and then the 440-3 without one with the same carb. on the same day on a engine dyno or at the track but I have tested a 400-2 with the adapter and then a 400-3 without the adapter and the 400-2 with the adapter made more HP and torque.
I then ended up adding a Wilson 1.5 inch 4 hole reversion spacer on the 400-3 intake with the same carb with no jetting or timing changes and that spacer on the 400-3 made the most HP and torque
I later tested another 400 stroker motor with the 400-3 with no spacer, a two inch tall open spacer and then a 4 hole two inch tall spacer and then the Wilson reversion spacer.
That motor like the extra plenum volume no matter which spacer I used
