Better is subjective? What do you want to do with it? The automatic is faster. The 8 speed is a wonderful transmission. I bought an M6 because I still like being part of the driving experience rather than mashing the gas and letting the computer take over. Either way, you're going to have a great car. I've put 42,000 miles in rain, snow and ice on mine, and it's been great. (Okay, it doesn't really like snow much, but that's because putting 500 horsepower to the ground with non-snow tires is a tricky task)

The stock shifter in the 6speed is garbage. My first 2 mods on my 15 Scat was a Barton shifter and a skip shift eliminator. I love my car.

How about the CDV removal? I haven't done the shifter or skip shift yet, but I got rid of the CDV.

I wouldn't buy one without a clutch pedal.

My Sister in Law just bought an 18 scat pack in destroyer grey with the 6 speed. I drove it, shifter isn't tragic and it was fun to drive. I would be really torn, I like to jam gears but I would likely get the automatic because it would make a fun car to bracket race.

What is involved with changing out the shifter? I agree - not too enthused about the factory shifter. 2nd to 3rd is crap. (mine is a '16 BTW too).

My best friend has a pistol grip in his '16 Scatpack. I think it's a little long, but it shifts nice. Idk if it's just a handle or if the shifter mechanism has been changed.
CDV is the Clutch Delay Valve. They say it is to reduce shock to the driveline during shifts, but what it does is slow the hydraulic fluid on engagement and release of the clutch. So in essence, all it does is let the clutch slip on engagement and disengagement. The delete takes less than 5 minutes on a lift. It took me about 30 minutes laying in the driveway, and most of that was just making sure I got the delay valve out of it.

I don't think it can be power shifted, so what good is a stick if you have to let off the gas every time you change gears? I like my 8 speed auto

It can be. Mine has been many times. When you let off the gas, though, apparently the throttle snaps shut completely every time. That can't be tuned out. Yet. But it actually power shifts quite well.

Haven't done the clutch delay valve yet. Plan on doing that on the next oil change. Only other mods I've done are Hotchkis springs and mopar cai along with the hellcat headlight mod.

There's no doubt. I love my M6. 2nd and 3rd gear are both good to produce tire slip whenever you feel like it. I plan on making a few passes with mine this summer.

Being a Shaker, mine had the CAI. I opened up the headlight. But I still need to buy the tube designed for the Scatpack. How do you like your springs? I plan on lowering mine in the near future. Any before and after pics?

6 speed for sure!

I've done the skip-shift eliminator, CDV delete, and Barton shifter on my '12 R/T STP. You can power shift it just fine. The Barton takes care of the 2-3 shift, since it centers itself to 3rd. You can be in 2nd, and just palm it up into 3rd-- it's so much better than the stock shifter. You can get the skip shift eliminator for less than fifteen bucks. CDV delete is free. Both of those together may take 15 minutes, and that's including jacking up the car. The Barton is pricey, but is just made better than the Hurst for these cars. You can use Barton's handles or the stock one if you like. I had never taken my console apart, but I was done with the install in about an hour. These three mods, plus a catch can, are essential in my opinion, even if you have no plans to modify anything else on the car.

The Hotchkis springs didn't effect the ride at all. My car is pretty much my daily driver. Car is only about an inch lower. It looks better and I think it feels better in the curves. I don't have any pics to show.

Stock autos have run in the 11's, one as low at 11.70's on drag radials and 96 octane. (supposedly that's what the 392 likes for fuel)

Unless you drive in traffic all the time I'd vote 6spd
