So I booked a small trip to florida for Daytona weekend
My bro turned 70 and had no clue what to get him for his
Bday - so I figured id take him to where cars can
do 200 mph legally , itll be warmer than NY,
my buddy has a camper set up infield , and I have two infield wristbands.

Were gonna arrive Thursday
I have no lodging accommodations , lol.
I didnt want to invite myself to sleep two guys
in my buds trailer .. just wanted a place to hang
and relax whenever convenient . For which he
invited me for .. so ill pack his trailer with beer and chairs
before he leaves .

Hes towing his monster fifth wheel with a GMC
so if he doesnt make - it my plans will be a little goofed.
At least its not a Chevy

So who camps at Daytona ?

Where do you park during day

What can I expect bein infield ?

Plan on purchasing a fanpass to get to check
out these guys working on their junk

I swore Id never go since Mopar dropped out.
But i still like loud engine sounds so , it cant
be that bad .

Any reccomendations ?
Ive never done this

Well I live here and have never done that. laugh2 Sorry I can't be much help except to tell you that you probably won't be able to find a room if you need one.

They will park you in satellite lots and shuttle you to a point close to the track. Parking in the immediate vicinity (across the street) is very expensive. Might be close to $100 on race day.

Lodging will be tough in the immediate area. Orlando? Try and figure that out now. If you can crash with the RV guys the night before the race, I would recommend that. If so, take an Uber to the track. The traffic on Sunday is awful.

Things to do in town -
Go to the Living Legends of Auto Racing Museum at the Sunshine Mall. It's free.

Daytona Racing Souvenirs is a store close to there as well.

The Flea Market very close to the track and can be entertaining. It's also free.

The Monday before the race is the Beachside car show at the drive in church on A1A, south end of town. You never know who will be walking around there. Have seen the Wood Brothers, Logano, Newman walking around as well as people from the past. That afternoon and evening there is another event at the old Bill France Garage on Main Street (bikertown). Many old racing personalities will be there. It's called Back to the Roots, held at Main Street Station. All of this is free.

Ponce Inlet lighthouse off A1A is very cool to go up in. Cheap fun.

"Racings North Turn" is a restaurant at the north end of the beach course on A1A. Lots of old pics and memorabilia.

If you have time take a day trip to Ocala and visit Garlits Museum, awesome place. If you want a great place for Breakfast visit Crabby Joes on the Sunglow Pier (Not to be mistaken for Joes Crab Shack on the Main Street Pier). Also, Aunt Catfish in Port Orange is a nice seafood/salad place for dinner.

You might consider renting an RV for sleeping, showering & etc; if there's a Walmart nearby, usually they're OK with RVs being parked in a far corner of their lot.

I kind of have a clue of what im getting into .
Ive gone to carlisle in the past with no clue where
Im staying . Ive gone on roadtrips before without
packing anything . Thank God for walmart .

My buddy said hes got two recliners in his trailer
But , i don't wanna crowd his trailer .

He said all i gotta do is park at a gate and hell pick us up.

Once we get infield we can do whatever..
this sounds like its gonna be a crazy party .

But I have no idea what traffic is like in out and to from.

Traffic will be terrible. I always avoid Daytona during bike week and the red neck holy days.

I was talking to a friend about your predicament last night whose about 15 minutes from the track.

He said at this point your probably stuck with traveling inland to Orlando.

Try searching Airbnb.com. Search on New Smyrna Beach. Looks like there are some possibilities. NSB and Daytona Beach Shores are close enough, but well out of the way from the track.

Why do you want a VD for a dinner date:-). Check out the Bahama House in South Daytona Beach. Pretty nice place and may get a decent rate.

DBS and NSB aren't far at all. Now Orlando will be more than an hours drive with the traffic on I4.

Search for a place in Altamonte Springs (the e is silent) I4 goes right through it north of Orlando and then Maitland. Both are densely populated and traffic is heavy around them.

You'll be fine. Plenty of places to stay within 30 miles of the track. If you need any help My inlaws are snow birds four towns over. Plenty to do that week. We went LY and I went to the duals parked accross the street for FREE! and walked the grounds. You will have a blast! Text me if you need any help.,

It was less than i expected and then more.
Ethanol does not smell as good as VP.. frown

The traffic was easy

The rubber smelled good .

The scenery was so so ..

The party was wild. I did procure a headache a headache once ,
No twice ..

I dint really need tickets since I had s fan pass

I got to see the King and his car , clone or not. ( the car )

Found that most people hate the Toyotas and miss Dodge

I could NOT travel the nascar circuit .

But I saw the real thing after watching since 70's

One thing off bucket list .. couple more to go

I went to the night race around 14 years ago and have always wanted to go back. Our hotel was 12 miles away. After the race, 2 in our party decided to walk back to the hotel; they beat us by 30 minutes.

I've always felt Nascar is a spectacle; I think a lot would enjoy it even if they're not race fans.

Don't know if I'll make it back to a race anytime soon but, my Aunt and Uncle own a hotel down there so; I should be able to make it back to Daytona in the next 5 or so years.

Glad you had fun.
