Looking to upgrade. It's a 9 passenger wagon/383 with a/c. Needs to be able to idle in power tour traffic with a/c on max in June.

Also interested in the best big block alternator upgrade, going electric fan this time

I'd suggest a Champion 3 row core with a shroud & a properly spaced fan with the most blades & ~ 1.33 overdriven pulley ratio & a high flow 180 or 185-190 stat. I'm assuming A/F ratio and timing especially idle/low speed timing is adequate.

I'll look into the champion. Direct fit for c body?

I got one for a 65 dart & I had to redrill one hole in the drivers flange, no big deal & on this one (eBay $189 2 row special to my door) there was no provision to mount a shroud & reportedly some of em ain't flat but reportedly that issue has been resolved & there was a guy on here who sold em (& guaranteed em). there was a comment about the core tube sizes being a bit small (than OE ones) but mine cooled fine but a DD 318 would not even come close to pushing/testing its cooling limits. that is all I can come up with & I would not hesitate to get anouther one IF it has the capacity to mount/use a shroud. EDIT or if a shroud can be mounted to it as is.

On the alternator, you could probably get one from the parts store for a 73 New Yorker with the 400. These are duel field alternators, so you have to do a little wiring to make it work, but it's easy. google single field to dual field alternator mopar and you'll find a diagram. My car charges much better now

Can also depend on how much you want to spend. A guy I know put a direct fit aluminum rad in his 65 Coronet and paid over $500 dollars for it. I bought an Afco aluminum rad from Mancini for about $300 that fit in fine but had no holes in the brackets as I had to just mark and drill holes in the brackets. Course I did not mind since it was over $200 dollars cheaper and it cools my 63 good. Ron

Last I remember they kept cool back in 65, so what is different today that you need a completely different set up?, besides global warming? Read some of past posts on here about aluminum radiators, and electric fans, and most of them won't cool near as good as a good stock set up.

Speedway motors (A mile from me & my former employer) sells a reasonable priced alum radiator. I've used several of em with no issues. They do shipping.

Gotm a 150 buck Champion for my built 65 440.Runs under 190 all day long.Fit was decent.Did have to get an adapter for lower hose because it was 1 3/4 and rad was 1 1/2.Less than 6 bucks at Advance.Rocky

Thanks for the replies guys, I will look into all the above options. As far as what's different now? I don't really know but I've questioned whether the timing and fueling are accurate. It runs fine and starts ok cold and hot though. Down in the muggy south it never could run cool enough to let you run the a/c unless you were moving 40-50 or more and that rarely happens on power tour. I wasn't alive in 1965 so I don't know what kind of drivability they had. This wagon used to be mine and I sold it to dad about 15 years ago and he's the one funding whatever it needs to be reliable. It's always run hot from when it was a freshened stock 2 bbl to now when it has an edelbrock performer package on the top end. It's a stock radiator that's been re-cored with stock fan and stock shroud and it's a factory a/c 383 car so I ASSume all the parts to be original and compatible. Dad's sick of fighting it and he'd spend a grand on it if it would actually fix the problem.

I forgot to ask the most important question which is how hot is it running? is this with a known good mechanical gauge? I'm assuming you are on ported. what is your initial? when you are moveing what does the temp drop to? Was it OK before the original rebuild? (if that info is available). how far into the shroud is the fan located? how many blades? was the rad rodded out or a new core (which it sounded like).

I'm watching this, I have a '66 Town & Country 440 TNT ordered w/o AC.
It has the small radiator and gets hot idling, I put a stock metal shroud on it with a 7 blade fan and that really didn't do much.
I'm thinking about going with a US Radiator 22" copper/brass core.
I'd like it to look close to stock.

US Radiator makes the correct fit radiator for the car with options of 20 and 40% improved cooling action. Pretty nice units in the 400-600$ range.
