Son and I are finishing a major makeover on his ‘93 Dodge Cummins W250. We pulled the VB to install a new OD solenoid and Transgo TFOD kit. We had trouble dropping the VB out of the case and discovered someone had goobered the solenoid connector around the o-rings with a sealer that looks like brown Permatex 2 or aviation.

Is the use of sealer around the connector where it passes through the case normal? I would think they’d be installed ‘dry’.

Not normal but hacks are everywhere. I use a little trans assembly grease on the o rings and slide it in. I have seen those connectors leak through the terminals though. Maybe they were trying to stop a persistent leak.
