Well, Big Chief kinda blew that theory in the mega race episode.

Here’s the way I see it... Chief has realized and capitalized on what has been missing in drag racing since the 70s. PERSONALITY. Knowing the drivers makes watching the race MUCH more fun to watch.
We discussed this at work. Most guys I work with like drag racing, but most won’t go to the track unless they know someone that’s racing. If I, or anyone else at work, go to the track to even make time runs, the track gets at least 5 extra gate entry’s. Think about this, then multiply viewership by actual track/gate participation. Now add in the fact that these cars are no joke.

I see Chief as trying to recreate the Jungle Jim/ Jungle Pam days. People knew them and came out just to see them. Even if you hate them, you may come out just to see them get stomped... but you’ll still be there. They prove that at every venue they attend.
Love them or hate them, the personalities help you relate to the races we are all watching.

+1 Personally i couldn't really get into any of the guys on the NOLA version and hence I didn't like it. The guy with the Chevelle was ok, kind of like dominator, the lovable shoot himself in the foot guy. Plus the only muscle car.

While I wouldn't celebrate with a flat hat or saying 'what? what? what?' the emotion among them was fun to watch last night.

Boy you hit it right on the head upPERSONALITY.

This is what reality tv has done and boy they do a great job of it. The only difference is the racers back in the 60’s and 70’s focused on RACING and that’s it. I can’t recall Dick Landy running around the pit area dressed in south of the boarder prison yard garb yelling “ don’t knobody 60 foot me”.

Like most of these reality tv created personalities, a lot of these characters will be an afterthought in 3-5 years.. hopefully they are smarter than they appear on television and invest the money they are making now wisely.

I have to guess that if a camera was rolling in our hero's pits and garages we would have seen some cringe worthy moments...

There was plenty of staged antics in match racing and when done well still a hoot to watch.

They earn millions of people's attention each week. Maybe they'll be okay losing one person's respect.
Most of the guys will admit they are punks, or as they say on the podcast, pieces of feces.

I think after the beatings he took from Hollywood Kelly, it was fun to watch him get caught up in the win.

This pic of “Telly Savalas (Kojack)” was on YB. I put a proper hat on him. Look familiar?

Moparts does not play nice with Apple devices due to a problem with UBB threads. Moparts also said that only 1/4 of Moparts members post and view on phones and tablets popcorn

I wonder how Facebook, Instagram and YouTube are able to post any picture or video from any device without any issues shruggy

Time to blow the dust off of my 15 year olds gaming pc and pull out my 11 year old digital camera in order to post pics whistling

I’ve heard that the Samsung galaxy works nice with Moparts FWIW up

Exhausting!

90% of the racers said, in the after race interviews last night, that "I tree'ed 'em" when 100% of them were WRONG!
