Only pic I have of mine towing is my sig pic.

It's 'only' a class II hitch.

Where would you get a hitch for something vintage?

Most of the time we had to make them as they were never made to do what we were doing with them

A friends car back in 1964, both the race car and the tow car were new.

No equalizing hitch, it was a white knuckle flight...

My dad bought a City of Saginaw detective car around '79, a '72 police package Torino with a 250 inline 6. When we went to put brakes on it, we had to match them up: 4 piston 3/4-ton truck fronts and 11" van rear drums. Pulled demolition derby cars all over Michigan with that and a trailer homebuilt from 50's drive-on hoist ramps with mobile home axles. Usually C-body Mopars. Took foooorrrrreeeevvvvvveeeeerrrrrr to get up to 60 mph, but would stop in a heartbeat.

Interesting that the tongue weight on the Mopar chart was only about 5% vs the more common 10%.

Muscle Mopar, that trailer looks like a Aristocrat loliner...

Wish I could contribute with pics but who knew it was a big deal back then....towed a U Haul trailer from Fort Worth to NAS Jax in 1976 with a bumper mounted trailer hitch on my 68 GTX (still own) and back when I got out in 1979...air shocks helped level the load up

I too wish I had taken pictures of some of my old car, race car, and trailer combos. We didn't even think of taking many pictures of the race cars.

I used a 66 Coronet wagon to pull the car trailer around for years. It was equipped with a factory class 3, 2" receiver hitch that was welded to the rear frame rails. The car was specifically bought to tow a camping trailer, I bought the car from the original owners and it came with all the original paper work. The hitch was rated at 3,500 lbs (which we were always exceeding). The car had a poly 318, 727, 11" drum brakes all around, and a 26" 3 core radiator with a fan schrod. Though pretty rough when I got it, I used it 4 or 5 years to pull the dirt track car to the track. The only things I added was a big trans cooler after I had the trans rebuilt and I did swap a set of 73 Duster disc brakes to the front and converted to the dual master.
I had a 72 Dodge Coronet wagon with a 400 that served the same duty for couple of years. After the 72, I went with trucks for tow vehicles.

I remember I was at the Mopar Nationals one year and a blue Superbird pulled in towing another blue Superbird on a trailer. I took a picture of that, but I'll probably never find it. Gene

For those of you who are fond of tow barring (aren't we all?), we used to transport many cars from Phoenix to Detroit area this way. I've probably driven close to 40,000 miles tow barring & never had an incident. ALMOST got pushed off the side of a cloverleaf exit in Indiana when a 454 El Camino with 800 pounds of car parts in the bed started pushing my 1968 Roadrunner. I had to quick hit the gas to pull out of it - it was pushing me into a jackknife situation. That woke me up REAL fast!

This photo was taken around 1984-5.

1984 My buddy Don towing his Super Pro 69 Pontiac with his company car. The company had no idea he was doing this.
He had finished in the top ten at Orlando Speed World and qualified for the Division 2 ET Championship in Atlanta.

I always liked the Superbird pulling the Superbird at the Nats in the mid-80's.

I guess that's why some of the cars in these pics are dragging ass pretty hard!

I've got some pictures of this somewhere but I think they are on floppy discs... Back in the '90's my wife qualified for a Pink Grand Prix with Mary Kay. We used it for a family trip to Florida from Minnesota. While in Florida I was of course looking around for cars and I found a '70 Challenger R/T 440-6 pac running project! So, I took the Pink Grand Prix and had a hitch put on, bought a car dolly and we hauled that Challenger all the way back home to MN! That 6 cyl GP actually pulled it pretty nice with no issues... Imagine, two young daughters in the back seat, wife in front and Dad (me) proudly pulling a project 440-6 pac Chall R/T in the Winter at highway speeds with a Pink car. True story!
