Asking 52k. If it's on consignment, what do dealers usually charge the seller?

my guess is the dealer has to make 10K or they won't sell it.
i had a friend tell me that's what they do at Volo when he inquired about selling his car there a few years back.

I think 10% of sales price is fairly common. Like all car dealers they probably have other ways to potentially soak buyers like setting up financing, shipping to the buyers home etc.
A place in my area would ask consignees their bottom dollar, and whatever they could sell the car for above that value was their profit.
In addition, places like Gateway will start charging consignees monthly fees for storing the car at their facility if it doesn't sell quickly.

There was a nice red 70 Coronet R/T in our classifieds advertised under 30k. I didn't have the money at that time.

Fast Lane Classics bought it and they have it advertised at over 52K. LOL

FYI; The Coronet you are referring to was advertised for 39K not "under 30".

Gateway typically charges $100 up-front take pictures and list the car.
As the seller, you tell them your minimum price. Gateway takes a minimum 12% commission. There is not a 10k minimum.

That's actually not too bad for a #s matching T/A.

Color is not bad with black interior. And thankfully, no vinyl top.

Four-speed, it'd be $15-20k higher, but if it's solid underneath (you'd think Gateway would have a lift to take pictures of the underside of their cars), I say, decent buy for old people who need an automatic.
