I retired back in August at 55......but since day 1 people have been all but begging me to come back to work (Electrical design/construction Engineer) so I think I'm going to try doing overseas contract work 3 months on/ 3 months off or maybe just help out some buddies 2-3 days a week with their businesses and see how that goes. I need a new car project and to stay engaged sometimes I help out at the local high school and work with the STEM students on various fun projects like converting a 73 VW beetle to Electric power. I also work out with a personal trainer and a karate instructor 3 days a week so things stay quite busy.

When bills are paid and you can live within your means and set a little something aside along the way......AND you bring-up your kids to be self-reliant these things can still be possible. The key thing is to always drive toward working because you want to and not because you feel you have to, sounds easy to say once you get there but to be honest I always had that goal and attitude most of my working career. If I had it to do all again I wouldn't change much at all about it.

Cheers to those who have succeeded and those who are on their way beer

Right on Jim! I signed the purchase agreement to sell my business yesterday myself. Official close is Tuesday so I could catch the break on taxes the new tax law provided. Headed for Mexico on Wed:-)

Good for you! We knew you were frustrated from previous posts so this is real good news. I can only imagine the feeling of relief for you.

I wish you the best.

Amen to that.

I'm 58 and have had everything paid off since I was 45.
Very little need to play the game these days.
Property tax money and winter fuel bills are in the bank and collecting interest by early March and the rest of the year is up to me.

Congrats Sir; I'm envious.

At 33, I think people of my generation have a lot to be concerned about with AI and automation; worries me almost every day.

I retired in 2009.

You'd think it will mean that you'll have more free time but it usually doesn't end up that way. laugh2

I do. LOTS of free time. I designed it that way. Hardly any yard work, mow once a week, maybe. Weed eat couple times a year. Drag limbs twice a year, usually. 20 feet of sidewalk and 2 porches & steps to clear of snow once or twice a winter. Fish most every morning. And then have from 10 am to dark to play on Moparts. Then to bed for 7 to 8 hours, then to the lake the next morning early.
