I inherited a 67 Jeep Gladiator from my Dad. Its pretty nice but has been setting with little use since 2006. I tore the front brakes off easy enough. The rears appear to be tapered axle/hub like an early B-Body Mopar. I don't have a drum puller. The studs are swedged into the drum. What if I cut the studs off flush then punch them out. Slide the drum off and replace the studs. Open the swedged holes so the drums slide on. Anybody tried this?
Thanks Doug

Never worked on one of these Jeeps, but have worked on a few tampered axle set ups. It has been my experience that cutting off the studs won't help you get the drum off as a matter of fact it would make it impossible to get the drum off if you cut the studs off. You use the studs to bolt the puller too and push against the axle because the drum assembly is stuck on the taper. You are probably going to have to bite the bullet and buy the puller or maybe you can find someone with the puller that you can borrow it from. Maybe check with your local auto parts store to see if they have one in their loan a tool program.

you might try heat on the hub-----and the ones on a chrysler i pulled used a heavy duty puller that you struck the spanner with a small sledge hammer---and on another note i bought a 54 chrysler hemi once (for the motor)--i started to flat tow it home and about 30 miles into the tow the rear wheel came off-----i found the hub nut was off---a check into the trunk looking for the nut revealed a new brake set for the rear---apparently the previous owner couldnt get the rear hub pulled off for a brake job and just left it that way----this method may ruin some sheet metal.....
