My 2014 diesel Ram with 98,000 miles just started acting funny. The trans started clunking and jerking when coming to a stop. Sometimes when going from a dead stop it would rev up for a second then slam into gear. Now it seems like it's going into neutral while driving down the road. Could this just be a filter problem or something worse? Thanks.

Sounds like it might be low on fluid. Have you looked to see if it's leaking?

My bet is the check valve and or filter is getting plugged from converter lock-up clutch material. There is a check valve in the cooler line. The converter dumps directly into the cooler line. When the check valve gets plugged fluid through the cooler is restricted. The return line from the cooler feeds the lube circuit for the O.D. unit. It can go south quickly. y mistake I saw the 2001 post and thought this truck was an earlier model. This info may not pertain to your year.

Fluid level is full, fluid is still red and no burnt smells.

Is it not still covered under the 5/100 powertrain warranty?

I just bought the truck this fall and it had an R title, so not sure if the warranty still applies. The codes are for low line pressure and 1st gear ratio.

Only way to check actual line pressure on your trans (68RFE) is to tee in to the passage where your line pressure sensor is at - passenger side rear of the main case - you will see a plastic transducer screwed in to the case with a connector plugged in.

The control module controls line thru a duty cycle solenoid that is part of the whole solenoid assembly bolted to the valve body. The transducer reads the line and talks to the module which then runs the duty cycle up or down to alter the line psi.

After checking that pressure ( as long as it is not in limp in mode ) pull the trans relay and force it in to limp then check that pressure again.

Let us know what your findings are.

Okay, when I put the gauge in the port do I put it in drive and check the pressure?

Record the presssure in each gear you can get, then put in relay default and get your reading in drive and reverse standing still.
