Found a guy with some mopar engine stuff for sale. He has a set of virgin Stage 6 heads (Not sure what CC or port size) I don't know anything about these heads. How do they perform OOTB, or do they need alot of work? Do they require a special intake, rockers arms and headers? How do they perform to the new Trick Flows.

Run away. They need a TON of work to be useable and far from cost effective compared to pretty much any other head available nowadays.

Assuming they are not Chapman stage 6's......

Every set I've had in the shop(and there have been quite a few) have needed a bunch of time and $$$ invested.
Nowadays, I would put them at the bottom of the "bang for the buck" list.

Thanks guys for the info. I'll know to pass on the heads when I go to check out all the stuff.

When they are fixed they are a raised port head and will make good power.

Basically........Rocker stands milled flat, spring pads not cut really deep into casting, very nicely cnc ported, 11/32 guides, intake guide boss completely removed from bowl, shortish/wideish exhaust port opening.

The Chapman ported stage 6 were pretty good and very expensive!

Buy a lottery ticket; you've already beaten the odds big-time if you had ZERO ISSUES with a set of MP Stage VI heads.

I've owned a couple of sets, both of which Dwayne had his hands on (or in) at one time or another. The chances of getting a pair that don't need something significant done to them (and there are too many possible issues for me to want to list right now, and this is from personal experience) are SLIM and NONE.

Not saying they can't work well ONCE all the sh!t is knocked outta them, but there are better quality -- and just as, if not more, effective -- options today that weren't around in 1998 when you bought yours, or 2000 when I bought my first set.

I bought a new set way back when they first came out but never used them. Ended up selling them on here to someone back around 2000 or so. I thought the super deep spring pocket was a very weird design.

Evidently Shep decided that the stock length valve was the most important thing to design around and he compromised everything else on the head just so he could use a stock length valve. No clue why he thought that was a good idea, guess it was just something that was super important to him.

Even if they were as "perfect" as a set of stage 6's can be, the best flowing version ootb was the last, the "Zeus" castings...... Which still barely flowed 260 ootb.
Some of the earlier versions were hardly over 240, with equally awful exhaust flow.

If they didn't actually need something "fixed", and you just did the basics(valve job, flat mill, oil drain back mods), then did a nice bowl blend and bought all the parts........how cheap would the heads have to be to end up less expensive than a set of E street heads?

Of course....... I've never seen a set if stage 6's where that's all they needed....... So those would be unicorn-ish in my world.

And then, you won't really know you're out of the woods until you've run them for a while.

I've had several sets come thru the shop to have the seats that were starting to fall put replaced.
