Im not well versed in any BB stuff and know alot of solids interchange but im wondering if the hydros do?

The ones I have do have a BB pn and the oil band seems to be up high?

Is there a difference and is it the oil band position?

Thanks!

Several cam companies sell the SB/AMC lifter for both SB and BB applications, but from the factory they used different lifters.

The BB lifter has a very narrow oil band located pretty high on the body, and no provision for pushrod oiling.

Oh OK so the aftermarket lifters are the same (where I got my info from) but the OE ones are different.

Ok, here is my experience between "2011" ( SB ) and "976" ( BB ) lifters

SBs are easier to find locally and they are the ones tipically used an all BB and SBs around here.

I never have got any problem using still 976s on my 400 with stock camshafts HOWEVER when I got the crower 282HDP cam using HiLift Johsons 976 lifters was imposible to get them charged, so had to get back to regular replacement SB ones untill topline auto ( HiLift Johnson lifters manufacturer ) send me their 2011s and get my engine running back again. As many of you guys now, I get them discharged overnight and get lifter noise on fist start up every morning for 2 or 3 seconds

Now... what it was the real problem ?

was 976 lifter oil groove leaving the bore with the Crower camshaft ? Dunno, but the MP 280/474 camshaft still gets the 976 kind lifter including in the kit and the lift is pretty much similar with the Crower cam, except the exahust lift rate.

maybe the bore on my block is wear enough to never get charged the 976s with HiPo camshafts but still get charged the 2011s ? maybe the bore is wear tappered on my block ? Still can't tell it

that is just my experience

OK so now that I'm totaly confused...What lifter do I use on my stock old BB motor.. 361 CID with NOS cam. stock cam.OIL pressure starts very high ..then before warm up drops to near nothing...??? And this just seemed to happen after changing cam and lifters. ( lifters did not come with the cam ). they are after market..don't even know what manufacturer, had them several years just sitting around. They run quiet and smooth. and have never been used ..NOS stuff.Just 0 oil pressure when hot idle...20 to 30 lbs when running .. Yes I checked and changed mechanical gauge..to the one on my test stand..same reading..

& it may get worse as some of the early BB's use a lifter with a smaller cup to match the smaller ball on that end of the pushrod, Sorry 'bout that! That type MAY use a pushrod with a tapered/smaller portion of the shank (for easy ID), others will clarify.

In a BB, you need to use the lifters and pushrods for the same year application.
Thru 67, or 68 and later....... To avoid the lifter pushrod cup/pushrod mismatch.

The two styles have a different diameter at the bottom of the pushrod, and the correlating pushrod seat in the lifter.
The early/late pushrods are also a different length.

You can use either the early or late style in any block, as long as both the pushrods and lifters are for the same year application.
