Just wondering if anyone has been able to make a side by side comparison, or perhaps used them, of the 1969 Road Runner grille & headlight bezels of these two companies?

I see them for sale everywhere with different vendors with prices varying drastically. One vendor will sell the grille for under $140 while another sells it for almost $400. Same goes for the bezels, prices are all over.

One thing that tends to be consistent is that the Goodmark parts are slightly less so I am wondering if there might be a quality issue or if it's just based on volume?

Okay, how about a review of either brand?

Has anyone bought & installed the Goodmark or the AMD grille & bezels?

Do they fit & line up nicely?

I have an original set that's not banged up but it looks old & will need to be restored. The car is not original & I am not worried about using after market as long as it fits.

i'm sort of surprised there are 2 sources for this part.
it makes you want to have one in hand before you buy.
if you get no answer
i would just buy one from a place that has easy peasy returns
and see what its about.

Well here's the thing - and this applies to most reproduction stuff - dies for any metal part are not a single unit but multiple dies. There will be one to stamp the initial flat shape from the sheet, another to stamp the basic shape, another to bend flanges, and so on. A minimum of three dies and possibly six or more depending on the complexity. These dies are LARGE and heavy and extremely expensive.

So having said that, its extremely unlikely that there is more than one set of dies in existence for most repro parts. The exception to this rule would be in the case of Sherman's, who has been stamping out mediocre repro parts for decades. But I strongly suspect that both the Goodmark and AMD stuff comes out of the same dies. HOWEVER, the difference is in the gauge of the metal, AMD uses 18ga as was used on original parts and Goodmark uses metal that is 30% thinner. This applies to body panels. Grills are already thin so they're likely one and the same.

So in the case of grills it boils down to the finish. Are they finished (plated and painted) by the same outfit or not? Do they each have a different spec for the shade of argent (it would appear so).

So the bottom line here is that the fit of either should be the same. The only differentiating factor being the finish.

If folks who've bought these grilles would post pictures of them, it'd be helpful.

i read on another site that the grilles came out
and looked really good at first
then they went out of stock for a while
and when the 2nd run came in
was not as good as the first with the paint shades being way off.
so as said above they are probably all from the same source..

Well I was at the detroit Mopar swap meet today and Roseville Chrysler was there selling parts. They happened to have a grill and bezels open on display. Unfortunately I screwed up and deleted the pic of the center section BUT the point was to show the difference in the two shades of argent. The bezels look close to correct for the RR but the argent on the center section could have been considered "metalflake black" it was so dark.

Thanks for the links, there are some good photos in them.

Seems that the color is the only serious issue which I can probably live with. I've repainted a few grilles & bezels on my other cars with incorrect colors that were close enough to still look presentable. If it is too dark for my liking, which I doubt, a light coat of a lighter shade of paint will work.

Thanks for the replies. beer

I used AMD grille and headlight doors on my 69 RR. Actually, the whole front end is AMD. This is the only picture I have at my disposal right now. They fit nice and look good to me.
