Any thoughts on the Edelbrock Jr. max wedge heads vs. Indy-1 or Trick Flow 270? I have a chance to buy, but havent heard anything about the Edelbrock. thx. To be used on a 500 in. street/strip 3600 lb. car.

not knowing your goals, but running with the "assumption" that since you are posting in the "race" section, the -1 potential for power is quite a bit higher.

On a "typical" street/strip car with a pump gas 500" motor, the power difference between those heads would more than likely come down to the level/quality of the porting and prep.

The TF270's come cnc ported, so if the other two heads were prepared in a way to where they had equivalent flow to the TF heads, the power should also be very comparable.

I haven't had a TF270 on my bench, but I have had cnc ported MW victors and a bunch of cnc ported -1's on my bench, with the -1's flowing more than the Victors.

I think this is a case where exactly what the goals are, and how mild or wild the build is, should help to steer you in the direction of which heads would fit the plans the best.

Thank you fast68plymouth. Actually, '68 was when I graduated from high school. I would say that was a good year for me AND Mopar. I always look forward to reading your generous sharing of knowledge on this site.

Hey Fast, do you think a standard port would work better at this weight to gain the velocity to move the car........... thumbs

I haven't use the TF 270 heads yet, I have had several different sets of 440-1 some CNC ported, one set of Indy SR with M.W. ports, not CNC though and I had one set of Brodix B1-BS CNC ported to M.W. size and one set of the Victor M.W. heads that where ported all the way to the valves. I have dyno tested all of those heads except the Victor M.W. on motors, the 440-1 and SR on the same motors with no other changes except the heads and rocker arms, the same ratio rockers on both heads, and dyno tested the SR on another motor on another dyno. The better the flow on the heads the better the torque and HP and the bigger heads make max HP at a higher RPM boogie
My next race motor will have a after market high nickel block and a good set of ported B1-MC heads devil up
My 518 C.I. 400 stroker pump gas motor Duster had both sets of the Indy M.W. heads on it, that motor made 727 HP with the SR heads on a DTS engine dyno and 775 HP with the ported 440-1 heads(30 CFM better on the intake ports) on the same dyno two weeks later on 91 octane pump swill boogie
My message is if you want the most power go with the best heads up

This is definitely an "it depends" question.

The overall combo would have to be pretty mild for me to lean towards a std port window at 500"........ Or some other "special circumstance", like the owner had to have a 6bbl on a stock type manifold where the mw ports don't really work.

If you're building something in that 500"+ range, and you're trying to "make some power", and you have to buy heads anyway....... I think using std port heads just puts you at a disadvantage right from the start.

If you're a new guy asking questions I'm going to assume you aren't an engine builder. In that case I'd highly recommend the Trick Flow heads since they come out the box more ready to bolt on than the Victor heads or the Indy heads.

If you are a highly experienced engine builder and have a shop full of tools then pick your poison. If you have a one car garage and a small tool box from Sears then you should stick with the parts that give you a fighting chance of bolting together.

I get it, as the cubes go up so do the fuel and air demands and I will go max wedge someday to see the difference over my standard port RPM's.............. thumbs
