Is there a difference in the rocker arms for the long valve W2 Econo and the standard length W2 Econo?

SAME arms.. the long valve will sit higher vs
the standard.. I have both type heads
EDIT
The rockers are the same but the valve length
is different.. for the W-2/W-5 use the same
arms
EDIT
there is 2 different off sets to the TD ones
.700 and a .625 offset

I don't believe so.They are still in the box.Freeze plugs? Are the valves still readily available?

The newer style has blue plugs that are used
after the casting is done.. they did it that
way to get a better casting inside... but the
rockers are the same.. are yours ported yet

Brand new untouched castings. Are the valves readily available? Not brand new I've had them for quite awhile. They are probably the older castings.

What size valves will you be running... you
can get a 2.02/ 2.05 or the 2.08 in it but
stock version was a 2.02.. also you might
want to go with the smaller dia stems.. they
help flow... yes the valves are available

https://books.google.com/books?id=S7rgkZ...995&f=false

read the blue box Econo Head,,,,tells you what length valves are needed...

Harland Sharpe sells rockers for the econ head.w2...1.5 or 1.6 ratio.

the MP or Crane w2 rocker are no longer made by Crane...Ductile Irons ones are no longer made...Both can be found on Ebay at times..last time I searched ebay there were a couple aluminum ones for sale.

Si, Manley, Ferrera and others make valves... x2 for the smaller stem valves.

Depending on your use you can get hollow stems for better valve control at higher rpm's. I have the same heads and wish I could afford to swap out those 3/8 valves...

Valves can be sourced anywhere as mentioned.Almost everything these days is just a SBC valve, or some derivative of one. You can typically make an easy swap out to 11/32 because a guide liner can be used, and its close on size to the 3/8" bore currently. You can also go with full bronze guides if you think thats what you want, albeit more costly.Reducing some area of the valve stem, and reducing valve weights are both good efforts. Dwayne could answer of the top of his head I'm sure, but I have flow comparisons on W2's at the shop, along with RHS/Indy and Enginequest, showing 3/8 vs 11/32 valves. Some arent as big as an advantage as you would think, but I'll take the lighter weight anyday.

@2264PLY The valve question is precisely what I had spent some time on, but finally found a valve that is nearly the matching length.

Take a look at the following Manley valves:

1) INTAKE - Manley, 11702-8, Severe Duty Pro-Flo
2) EXHAUST - Manely, 11703-8, Race-Flo

The only challenge here is that these are 11/32 stem diameter. Like you, I have the W2 long valve heads sitting in their original boxes here...not exactly keen on spending the extra $$$ on re-working the heads, but I figured I'd do it right the first time around.

Nothing wrong with the 3/8 stem valves, but if I'm going to spend money on something I might as well aim to save a little weight, thus the move to the 11/32 stem.

Ahh, one other thing, the Manely intake valve is under-cut as well, so apparently a tad better flow at lower lifts - no 1st hand experience here, just a quote/un-quote from their catalog.

The W2's with 3/8 (2.02 valves) will easily flow over 300 with porting work so decide how much performance you need from there. I was extremely happy I didn't spend the extra money to upgrade my valves after my W2's cracked. They are now "leaners" along my garage shop wall.

The W2s on my 416 flow in the 320s with 2.02 3/8 stem valves. I believe they are MP valves.

Si will build valves in any size or length you need at very competitive prices.

www.sivalves.com

CWE is correct... liners work very well and are cost effective. Many builders are using them instead of replacing existing bronze guides.
