I kept getting an oil pressure light, so added a quart of oil thicker than 5-20. I got the code for the wrong weight oil and my understanding is this will mess up the mds. Oil pressure light was out then went for a ride and it came back on. I had rebuilt the engine, new oil pump etc... guess I have a bad oil pressure sensor, pretty common, so I ordered an oem one. I did use a mechanical gauge to make sure it had good oil pressure and that doesn't seem to be an issue. Guess the cheap aftermarket one was a waste of $.

Now the real issue, it seems when the mds would try to work, the lifter noise gets louder. Like its blocking flow. Could it be bad check valve or whatever sensor activates the mds? No codes other than the wrong weight oil. Shut it off, restart and back to normal. Even before when idling, it seemed to have done this, restart and all good.

Guess it was a lifter issue... got loud and drained oil and lots of big chunks of metal like from a cam. Sounds like it lost a rod bearing in the process too. Guess back to pulling the engine and rebuild it. Was a used engine that the timing chain broke and used heads etc off the original engine. So much for being cheap!
