I’ve got two types in my parts stash. Looks like most got the 60” telescoping mast. When did they use the solid mast?

Easy rhyme to remember;

The solid mast was new

For 1972

Not sure where I got it, but I have a "4" piece telescoping antenna . . . it reaches the stratoshpere . . . ha ha ha, not sure what it would have come on, or even where I ended up picking it up . . . it is the screw in type, like the single mast . . .

Most of the telescoping ones have laying around have a longer threaded part on them. I’m finishing up a 70 Challenger and it will not accept the longer threads. It won’t screw down flush. I’m sure the base and antenna have been changed. I have several solid masts and they all have shorter threads. That is all that will fit this one.

How would a 70 PM43 have had a fixed mast antenna? .Car was bought new in 6-70 R11 radio.

Solid mast started before 72 are you 100% sure on this?
so all A Bodies before 72 are telescoping

Think that 69 or 70 started the single solid mast antenna . . .

Not 69 cars. Maybe it started sometime in 70 or 71 but not in 69.

I have 1970 AM, AM / FM & AM 8 track cars here. All telescopic.

Then, later on - the 1972 model year began..........

So can you give me a plausible reason for the above??

They can be swapped out in a few minutes if one was broken, stolen or damaged.

Check your owners manual, the part about adjusting the antenna. ;-)

Mopar dealers sold an extra height, telescoping antenna, for areas with poor radio reception. For the post above that has the extra long piece, that is probably what it is. A little thicker as well
