Thanks for advice. 1970 challenger 318 auto /console car. Almost finished . Yea !!! Telling us more about what's actually wrong with the VIN tag would help people tell you have to deal with/fix it.

A damaged vin tag will net you a whole lot of bureaucratic hoops to jump thru, the same number of hoops as a lost VIN tag because the solution is still the same, a state issued VIN tag once the state decides you don't have a stolen vehicle. I wonder if anyone noticed the OP has three posts, all in this thread. Cops always look at the dash vin tag when they pull you over. Want to guess what the first cop that sees that damaged VIN is going to think?
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

In 40+ years of driving, I've only had 1 cop look at my VIN tag, and I've been pulled over more times than one can imagine... The ONE time a cop looked at the VIN was because I was driving a freshly painted vehicle home that had no glass, trim, bumpers, grill, lights, etc, etc....funny part of the event, 2 State Troopers, the "smart" one says to the other Statey, "and he dosen't have an inspection sticker either", "NO SH!T, could it be because there's no windshield in the car!", the other responded...no tickets, just a warning after I had to explain the vehicles "condition"

Want to guess what the first cop that sees that damaged VIN is going to think? The OP has yet to explain exactly what type of damage was done to the tag other than Lol. More than a hole in it. The drill chuck mashed it. Prob have to drive around without one . That still doesn't really tell anyone much about the damage. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. He could put tape over the sequential numbers to hide that part of the VIN on the tag. Without seeing the tag no one can really say if the tag can be smoothed out or somehow fixed. If the VIN stamping isn't damaged it may be salvageable. Personally I think he should quit being a cheap azz and just pay the price to get a quality reproduction tag. It shouldn't be an issue getting one made as long as he has the original tag that you can clearly read the VIN on it. I noticed his post count, but does that really make a difference to answering his question?

Contact the State is the best advice. But a damaged Vin tag still has the numbers that match the rest of the vehicle stamping. So why would he have to succumb to a state issue Vin?
Nanket, 81_93 Dodge truck, 80-86 or so Ford truck, International till the late 70-s, most Ford Dodge and ggm too. Swapped Vin tag isn't just a Mopar thing.
