I took my 12 year old baby Benz to the Texas Motorplex for some street car night runs with a few coworkers. This was my first passes on a track in at least 8 years and I've own this car less than 2 months.
I only managed to get three runs in due to the heavy crowds and a lengthy down time from a pair of Mustangs racing each other into the gravel trap. realcrazy

The first run had the lengthy cool down. The second and third runs had the engine at normal run temps and 20+ mph wind gusts blowing from about the 2:00 position when on the track.

On each run I had the traction control off, the shifter in drive (with sport mode) and rolled the throttle in quickly but not too harshly.

The runs were:

60' . . 1.984 . . 2.024 . . 2.040
330 . . 5.603 . . 5.699 . . 5.728
1/8 . . 8.582 . . 8.695 . . 8.735
mph . . 81.73 . . 83.67 . . 83.30
1000. . 11.132. . 11.288. . 11.814
E.T.. . 13.288. . 13.448. . 13.512
mph . . 104.19. . 104.75. . 104.19

I don't think I was spinning the mismatched tires (bought it with a Pirelli PZero and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3 out back). I couldn't feel them spin and there was no chance of hearing it. Looking at the short times I'm pretty sure the little 245/45-18s were hooking up.

What would be the most likely explanation for picking up 2 mph in the 1/9 mile but running the same mph in the 1/4?

In the end, I'll take those passes. They're right in line with what I expected out of the car.

the north side stands (wind was from the north) completely block the wind until the 600 ft mark.

Optimal for that mph is a 1.77 60 ft. and 12.74 e.t.

Not bad for a street tire, though.

'63 Dodge 330
11.19 @ 121 mph
Pump gas, n/a, through the mufflers on street tires with 3.54's. 3,600 lbs.
10.01 @ 133mph with a 250 shot of nitrous an a splash of race gas. 1.36 60 ft. 3,700 lbs.

I don't know accurate their lights are either. Look at the difference in time between the 1000ft and 1/4 on the third run compared to the first two runs. Something is wrong with the numbers.

If that's the case it's a shame it wasn't a more entertaining error like the one from east Texas years ago. It had me at 384 mph in the 1/8. smile

the 11.814 makes no sense, a 11.334 would make sense. I suspect a typo or sensor issue.

I went back and looked at the slip again. No typo.

You should see my reaction time from that pass. It was nearing midnight and they slipped in a pro tree. I saw all three lights hit and thought "huh, they used a pro tree" then it hit me. I SHOULD BE GOING NOW!

Yeah, not pretty. : laugh2
