How many of you racers have your front disc brake rotors turn bluish after a season or two if racing. I run the stock single piston slider type (non pin type) with all new rotors and components. I notice after every track day they get more and more expaned area of bluish. Rotors were true and new pads with normal drag. All contct surfaces lubed with brake grease.

Is this normal occurrance just from the nature of slowing from 125 + speed? I dont jump on brakes. I always apply moderate pressure for a few seconds to scrub off some speed, let off a few back on slightly, etc. so i purposely dont overheat them

Anybody have perfect rotors after a season of racing or is this normal?

My rotors did the same thing. It's part of racing. Solid hardened non vented rotors only lasted a couple yrs + street driving.

We had a lightweight 2 piston front kit on a car a little over half as heavy as yours and we would discolor the rotors, especially after a visit to a short track where you really had to use them.

Regular inspection for cracks or heat damage, both on the rotors and pads, and paying attention to signs of warping and pulsation is a good idea. Discoloration by itself is mostly normal. Like anything else, repair or replace used up parts.

Do you have a proportioning valve? Just wondering if have too much front bias...ask me how I know.

Its not that unusual especially if you race the top end a lot.

Most drag cars are reverse proportioned, street cars are not. You will definitely go through some rotors with a front bias brake system. I wouldn't change to drag car proportioning if I drove the car on the street. I would deal with buying a pad and rotor supply.

I do have a wilwood proportioning valve adjusted properly for the street (because i do drive it on the street and highway).

Thanks for the replies

I have never had to use an adjustable prop valve on a car that had properly designed and sourced parts. Buy a correctly sized good MC with a known bias instead of a $15 piece from Autozone, match the brake kit to the car (weight, speed, tire size, etc.) and pay attention to things like bore sizes and it just works. Hint: Wilwood and other manufacturers calipers may look the same, but the bore sizes are often quite different and as a result, they don't work the same.

I always love seeing your car at the events when i do get out to them. It proves that not only the newer cars can be driveable and reliable. And congrats on the bests!

My Aerospace front discs are blued and cracking. Obviously time to replace them. Of course my car is a 3900 lb sled that traps 150+ mph, so it's hard on brakes. I need some rear discs bad...still running factory 11" drums on the back.

How many years did you get out of them? 150+ is flying. My friend with a 70 ss chevelle jusr finished putting on 4 wheel aerospace and traps about 136. Wondering how long he'll get out of his at about 3600 lbs.

Gotten quite a few years out of them b/c I don't race anywhere near as much as I used to. I think I got about 2 seasons out of them when the car was running mid 9s at 140 mph...and when I was able to go to the track fairly often.
I had a caliper seize up after 4 years or so. Bought a replacement and got the old one rebuilt...still have it on the shelf.
